heat from the foot well and under centre console area normal?

Hey everyone

After driving for around an hour, it gets a little hot in the car.
If im in the drivers seat and put my hand NOT where the kick panel is but on the exact opposite side down where your relax your other leg, if i put my hand on the material it gets fairly warm.
Also I've had the centre console off the car for a few weeks and I was driving with it off and all the metal where the handbrake is up to the shifter gets hot.

Is this normal????

Do you have all your heat shields on your exhaust?

Check the boot around the shifter mechanism. Is it hot no matter what, or only with the climate control operating? If it only does it with the climate control on, could be a leaky heater box.

Re: heat from the foot well and under centre console area normal?

Yeah it's basically hot no matter what (I'm a poet and don't even know it )and the hottest part is right underneath the automatic shifter... PRND321

I have no way of lifting the car high enough to check for heat shields but it feels like it's a transmission thing rather than exhaust because the transmission is where your feet are and the exhaust is at both sides of the car.... possible???

I have the same problem with my 92. I just assumed it was normal. Also, I've had various random heat shields removed due to rattling and what not..

Re: heat from the foot well and under centre console area normal?

I have found If you shut off the heat with it set at a high temp alot of heat still comes out. Im not sure how the heater works exactly but seems like the water does not shut off when the heat is off only when the temp is lowered. Also i usually install a hose to bypass th heater core in the summer. It is easy on this car you dont need to remove much if anything else to do it. This really makes a big difference in the cabin.

The cat and stuff is down the middle... It's probably the seal around where the shift linkage comes through the floor.

you have to set your ac heater gauge to below 72 it closes the air ducts stops the heat from entering
