Cleaning Coolant Reservoir
I took it off while looking for a coolant leak and it's full of gunk and crap inside so I figure I might as well clean it while it's off. Not as easy as it sounds lol. Anyone have any suggestions? What's a good cleaning solvent?

pick up some simple green and a pipe cleaner brush. Dont even dilute the simple green, it should prettymuch break up whatevers in there, and the brush ought to be able to reach in all the crevices of the thing

the one thing i use to clean pretty much anything in my svx, liquid wise, is gas. im not sure if itll do the job for coolant, but i dont see why not. i use it to clean the oil pan, tranny fluid pan, etc. it evaporates and it cleans great. just make sure you let it all evaporate before putting things back together as im not sure that it would be good for fuel to be mixed with anything lubricating/cooling the car.

hmm
Perhaps rubbing alchohol would do that trick better? Gas has other things in it, that don't evaporate, and would be hard to remove later. I dont know if it really matters for trace ammounts like that, but just my 2 cents

Boil water in a kettle, pour it in, and shake the container. That will take care of at least the easier stuff, so you can focus on the tough goop with a solvent.
