smallcar shift kit is no good? stage 1 ?
I consulted a trassmission expert about this. He's not willing to install the shift kit on my SVX. He said this kind of kit would wear tranny even faster. And he suggested not to install the stage 1 chip either. One of his arguments was that all the control went through computer, if I changed the stock one, no one would know what's going to happen. And most likely I would damage my transmission very quickly.
I've installed tranny cooler. And I saw many people here got shift kit and stage 1 installed. I am very confused about the expert's opinion. |

I would install the shift kit before I would install the stage 1 chip.

you only live once a car can be repaired. i wish i could get a chip but i cant. i got the shift kit though. its good stuff. if tranny goes the car is begging for a manual tranny anyways. every one has there own opinions. i bet u can also find another expert that thinks otherwise.

This would be a first - someone saying the shift kit is harmful.
The shift kit does not replace the TCU. It still shifts at the same points. The only difference is that line pressure is increased in proportion to throttle application. This causes it to shift harder than normal. Shifting harder is fine for the tranny...it's the soft smooth shifts that create the heat that kills our trannies.

I guess the guy was not aware of the weak point of our trannies. I showed him the manual I printed out from smallcar website which explained how it worked. He just didn't believe it. I think his mind might be impressed by all the burned trannies of mod street cars too much.
Just out of curiosity, if I put in more trassmission fluid, will that generate the same result? Quote:

I don't have the shift kit, so I can't comment about that. I do have the stage 1 though, and I'm sure that it won't cause any harm. The stage 1 doesn't replace the ECU, it simply attaches to it and modifys some parameters, such as air fuel ratio. In other words, the stock computer is still there and doing its job correctly

Our cars are almost identical, except that mine is red
One side question, do you have the security/keyless system installed on your car? Quote:
