speed sensitive wipers, what next?

speed sensitive wipers, what will the crew at subaru think of next. oh wait they thought of it more than 10 years ago. living in the north east has changed, we have moved from winters of bitter cold and 10 foot snow drifts to a winter that is more than 10 degrees above normal and in a drought. this morning i awoke to something i had all but forgoten, snow. by the time i went to the gym it was 40degrees and sunny. time to use the intermittent wipers. i noticed as a past another cautious driver that the wipers seemed to increase in frequency. time to use a little sientific method, damned if it wasnt the case. at 40 the wipers cycled at once to every 4 sec., at 60 once to every 3 sec., and at 80 once every 2 sec.. amazing. i realize that this quest for knowlege would not satisfy the evry present police agancies of rural upstate new york. but a mans got to do what a mans got to do. with so many hidden features, each drive has turned into another first time ride. subaru did very well and in my humble opinion was remiss to discontinue such spectacular vehicle.

now if i can avoid twisting an ankle climbing down from my soap box, time to go rebuild my transmission, replace my brakes or PS o-ring or wheel baring or..........

Siegel,

Although rare, it wasn't new then either. My '89 Galant had them as well. I actually prefer the Galant set up of the wipers. That, however, is the ONLY thing I prefer over the SVX.

shhhh, how's your tranny... - so much to do huh?

What's the difference made u like the Galant's more?

Actually, there's something still better than our wipers, fully automatic and you don't have to turn it on and twist it to the speed sensitive. if the sensor senses the rain or anything, the wiper will activate by itself. but, i still like our speed sensitive wiper - better than nothing

ss,

sshhh...<wisper> the tranny is fine..thanks for asking...

Still too much to do. Had no amibiton this weekend to finish the stereo.

I liked the Galant because when you put it in "Auto" mode the intermitant+speed sensing was related. With the SVX you can use intermittant until you turn it to the shortest interval then it's speed sensing. I can't seem to apply it correctly for the conditions.

I found out, quite by accident, that the intermittent wipers, when they're on a certain setting, don't start wiping full on until you hit 80 MPH.

Yes, that's right. The point at which they come on full, varies with the progressive intermittent setting on the stalk. At one point, it's 20 mph, another, it waits 'til 60 and at yet another, they go full at 80. You're fine, there's nothing wrong with your wipers.

Speaking of wipers, have you discovered the winter wiper parking position switch yet?

Ah, here's one: How many of us are missing the little "bumpers" on the wiper blades? Not the ones on the cowling -- the ones on the blades themselves that rest on the ones on the cowling? (Smiling with glee that I'm no longer without them )
