Noobie here with questions

I just picked up a 92 SVX with 118k on it. The car is in great condition inside and out and runs perfect. My only problem is the drivers window wont go down. Is this a common problem with an easy fix? If so let me know. And also if there are any problems to look out for, let me know. Thanks

Hi Jim SVX

Assumptions:

1) It was in this condition when you bought it.

2) The other three windows work fine.

Questions:

a) Is there any noise when you try the driver's side window - like maybe the motor is running but the window doesn't move?

b) How about making the other windows go up & down from the driver's side switch? From their own switch?

Things it might be:

If (a) if might be a small plastic piece has broken and is easily replaced (not common, but not uncommon). Search on the forum for sleeve-lock regulator

if (b) [no personal knowledge - just relating what I've seen discussed over the last year] it seems likely that the switch is bad, the motor itself seldom seems to fail. Do a search, I think some folks have successfully taken apart the switch and cleaned up contacts. Others just replaced the switch. Here's a link to an exploded parts diagram showing the switch:

thanks. I do think the problem is the button, cause all of the other windows open and close from the drivers button except for the drivers window. the drivers window button doesnt seem connected right, it seems loose. Ill have to take it apart to see what the problem is. Thanks

If the button is loose then it's broken. You should still be able to put down the window with the switch if you push slightly on the back of that driver door window switch (to put the switch back into a normal position) and then down on the front of it to put down the window.

Also listen if you can hear the window motor when you are working the switch. If you hear it then the "Sleeve Lock Regulator" could be broken.
