Five speed front diff preload?

Does anyone know how tight the screw in bearing retainers on the front diff should be? The five speed 007 got for me from a junk yard always kinda looks like it had been apart once, but is supposidly just a low milage used tranny. Anyway I had to change the left side axle seal, so I marked where the reataining ring was and then removed it, changed the seals and screwed it back in. I figured it would seem obvious as to how many times it turned before the mark was lined up, but when it got to the point where I couldn't turn it any more it was about 7 notches short of the mark, so I spun it back one turn to where the mark lined up but it seemed to be a bit on the loose side. I check another tranny I had to see how tight it was and it ws about 3to4 notches back from really tight, so I just did the same with the one in the SVX. I wasn't having any problems with the tranny before, but it did rip up the seal really good like it might have been riding on it. After I did it, it seems to be ok but i'm just conserned now as to wether everything is where it belongs.

If anyone has any ideas or sugestions please let me know.
