Well even if the SVX isn't guttless, I know an owner who is.. Compared to a modern car it is quite guttness and slower than your average econobox. Then again so is a stock 65 Mustang.

Re: svx gutless???? NOT!!!!

In its day it was quick(ish)... now little old ladies on motorized carts are faster. Its called progress...
If anyone thinks a SVX is fast, they are used to some REALLY slow cars. I bought mine because it was cool. Not because I thought it was a race car.

Re: svx gutless???? NOT!!!!

when compared with the cars it was competing with... it wasn't going to win many/any contests of speed.

even the hopped up econobox's of its time (acura integra gsr) were on par with or quicker than a stock svx.

but then again, the beauty of the svx was never in its performance figures. so if that's why you bought one, idk why you did.

Re: svx gutless???? NOT!!!!

When your previous car was a stock 1990 Legacy with nearly 200,000 miles on the odometer, an SVX seems crazy quick.

Re: svx gutless???? NOT!!!!

Fastest in the family does not qualify it as not gutless, however.

Naturally, fast is a relative term dependent on the driver as much as the car. At 3600 lbs and 140/100 springs stock, the SVX knows not what fast is.

As for being quick, getting to 60 in the 7's and through the quarter mile on the edge of 16 (if you're into magazine racing) was a little bit more special when these cars were new.

If you're a skilled driver, you'll be able to take a lot of allegedly not gutless cars between the cones, but in a straight line, you'll be familiar with lots of taillights.

Barring a few rather modified exceptions, the SVX looks plenty quicker than it is. Apologies to those who feel otherwise.

Re: svx gutless???? NOT!!!!

At the speeds I drive (below 80mph) my SVX doesn't "feel" any faster than my 4 cylinder Mazda 6. It may even be slower? I blame the stock transmission because when I drove a 5 speed SVX it felt like a rocket compared to my car. Anyhow if I really wanted my SVX to accelerate faster and had the money, the transmission would be the upgrade to do, either 5 speed or 4.44 auto.

Smile Re: svx gutless???? NOT!!!!

I see all your points. I love my svx and to see some dis on what I really like was hard to take I guess I can see all the points of not being as quick was other/newer cars but this can always make a difference who is driving. I can see how the acel. is slower but once I hit 65 it wants to go but I am the kinda person who does not care if some one says my car is slow cause I know its not lol. So I think I will get an ipreza sti and get subaru known in my town. So I will keep rockin the svx until then and hear people ask how do the windows work while i pass them

Re: svx gutless???? NOT!!!!

The SVX is a Grand Touring Car. It is not a drag racer and most of us know that. It looks much faster than it is, or should I say quicker? It is a fast car when you consider top speed compared to many that are quicker. I love this car because of what it is, not because of what it isn't. It is becomming more rare every day and a classic in its time even if it was an import. It always starts conversation when people see it and is not something you see every day unless you own one.

Even if you own one in some cases lol. Mine resides at my parents because I don't have space in my driveway and refuse to leave it in the street. I agree with what everyone is saying. It doesn't mean you can't love your car but love it for what it is.

That's right. But you also don't love it for what it's not!

Re: svx gutless???? NOT!!!!

Agree with dcarrb, except my Legacy is a '97 with 220k miles on it (on it's 4th engine!), and my new '94 SVX feels plenty fast in comparison.

Re: svx gutless???? NOT!!!!

If you view the SVX as a race car, you'll be disappointed.
I've had to drive a whole bunch of late model cars for work reasons, and the SVX doesn't feel gutless in comparison at all, probably on par with lateish base model V6 sedans (Falcon's, Commodores) but with much better road feel. Gutless in comparison to a modern sporty car maybe, but still good amongst your average every day cars, a whole lot more interesting and enjoyable in every other regard though.
