Re: another for sale in NZ

iteresting description

"Automobile magazine raved the SVX sounded better than a Porsche, was smooth as a Lexus, and handled like a German sports car with McLaren F1 style windows and the engines are still used in small aircraft costing $45k. Comparable to a 2009 BMW 328xi Coupe today and still 200 lbs. lighter, this car was way ahead of it's time. Punch it hard, and several things happen. The transmission--which has two-level control mapping--selects the "power" mode for later upshifts and earlier kickdown. The multiplate clutch mechanism between the front and rear axles shifts from its usual 60/40 front-to-rear setting (the same as the weight distribution) to shunt more torque to the rear wheels for better traction. Speed sensors at the wheels instruct the control computer when disparities occur between axles, and the clutch pack is modulated accordingly. Thus, little effort is lost in getting the 3525-pound vehicle moving.
At full throttle, the flat-six revs right to the solid red at 7000 rpm before shifting up, and although first-to-second and second-to-third shifts are smoothed by a shift-energy strategy that cuts fuel to three cylinders momentarily, the next ratio hooks up pretty quickly. In fact, up- and downshifts are accomplished promptly during full-throttle operation. An electronically controlled hydraulic torque converter lockup mechanism operates on all gears except first and does so with a two-phase action to minimize abrupt driveline sensations."

Exactly as was my immediate reaction. When I bought mine, I noted that the power button was seized up, the ash tray had never been used and everything was absolutely stock standard.

Trevor, at 7k is the guy stating it takes that long to change up ??? Does fuel starvation occurs due to engine management computer cut-off ???

I am not inclined to believe anything he is stating.

As I understand it, the cutting three cylinders as a means of engine control, has not been verified as being fact, particularly given the existence of a torque control signal. No doubt Phil will sort this out in due course. One would expect cut off to include ignition, so as to prevent any lean running.

Cheers, Trevor.
