svx vs. trans am ws6

I bought a t/a about a week ago and since it was raining today I drove the Subaru to work. Holy hell what a difference in handling, whole world of a different car. I wish I could melt both into one single entity.. balls out power from the get-go and razor handling.

So anyways I've changed my plans on the ws6 modding path and will be going all suspension over the summer before any more power-adders. Oh well just babbling to myself here I guess.

Yeah, they **** and get until that auburn blows...
Rear is quite slick on em, but that's what makes it fun, right?!!!

SVX will just blow the trans on the other hand, so...

Have fun with it and take some vids while you smoke the tires, so we can drool over what we can't do in our cars... haha

On paper the VR 4 promised everything. In fact and in practice the sum of the parts with the Mitsi was disappointingly less than the whole. The VR 4 could go very quick without giving you much fun in the handling stakes.

On the opposite front, the SVX to most people is actually better to drive than the sum of its abilities on paper. I put this down to its ride/handling balance. This in turn was influenced by the design decisions not to go for upper/lower wishbones, plus the emphasis on excluding NVH via the subframes.

What we need is about 350 hp in the SVX, coupled with the 64-36 gearbox. The car that comes nearest to delivering the rear drive fun with AWD stability has to be the Nissan R32 GTR contemporary. It's ability to vary the handling is what made it the Godzilla of the race track in its day.

I still want one.

That looks cool Alan.

Does your US model come with single turbo, or the twin sequential of the JDM ones?

When I think of power Legacy's don't really come to mind. I might pick one up down the line when I get a little richer though.

305HP (+22%) / 345lb-ft (+38%) from the stage 2 Cobb, plus i has some other extras.

giant factory brakes with upgraded pads, some suspension mods, and it does all i want all year long.

not exactly the prettiest car in the world, but i think it looks good and its fairly stealth as far as the cops go.

i wish! single turbo (bigger than the WRX's, but smaller than the STi's), but we do have the advantage of the 2.5L engine over the JDM 2.0L.

You are better off without the twin system. It's designed to give torque at low revs from the small turbo coming in early, and that works OK.

I had two of them, and all of them have the dip in torque around 3500 rpm where one turbo cuts back while the other comes on song. When both are shoving together it truly flies, but there is too much complexity. And the power dip.

One big mutha is a better job. Plus your 2.5 engine will have more torque. I reckon what you have is the bees knees, plus totally reliable.

Eee, by gum, I'll grant you that!!

However, it's very possible your car has the new variable vane technology turbo, which does a similar job with less control technology to go wrong.

That I would think of as cool.

That's less than what my car is putting down now and it's barely fast enough to be fun imo.

I fully support your change in mod plans, but I wouldn't exactly call the SVX's handling 'razor' sharp.

the TA is also 300-400 lbs heavier and no AWD. all i want is acceleration - i don't care about top speed, as i'm rarely on the highway. it goes like a raped ape off the line, and it IS a lot of fun. would probably give way to a TA after 80mph, but i'd already be at the next redlight by then......stupid suburban/city commute.

back on topic .....
i always kinda liked the WS6, because Camaros are too dime-a-dozen. i don't know how the stock braking is on those cars, but starting with suspension and brakes is a good way to go, having lots more power and torque than an SVX and weighing the same or a little more. post up some pics of the bandit, and also of your progress growing a magnificent mullet.....
