Which one is accurate to consider KBB/Edmunds?

Hi,
I am confused of KBB and Edmunds prices on used cars. Edmunds always have way low prices than KBB. Atlast which one is best measure for used car prices (KBB/Edmunds)??
Lately i am looking for prices on 97 Impreza wagon and the price on Edmunds is like $1000 lower than KBB. I heard that recently the depreciation of Subaru has reduced a lot and keeping up its good value. KBB has updated its database recently this year while the edmunds is still using its old database. But dont know much abt nadaguides, howz it?
Which one to consider???
Edited-
What is the best price u think for a 97 Impreza Wagon with 123k on it? Lets assume it to be in good-fair condition. Please think in both seller's and buyer's point of view, so that it will be more even

I havn't read NADAs fine print, but KBB/Edmunds is so simple that it is absurd once you have read the fine print.

KBB=sugested asking price assuming you will negotiate.

Edmunds=sugested selling price after negotiations.

This all gets confusing when dealers who are either ignorant of the difference or just out to get more $$$ represent KBB verbally as the only proper selling price.

Thanks, I think its the right way to go with.. Can you evaluate for a 97 Impreza Wagon with 123k in good-fair condition??

I haven't stayed current with those prices, but I bought a 97 Outback last summer and payed $5995 for it. Mileage was 116,000 and 5 speed manual. Condition was fair. I know it isn't what you're looking for, but may give you an idea.

The difference is too much and I am not able to decide on a price ... anyone out there help me...

For 97 Impreza Wagon 123k (Private Party Values)
KBB-
Good - $4470
Fair - $3870

Edmunds-
Good - $3106
Fair - $2138

The asking price of tht guy is $4900 (yep too much and way more than both values). Wht do u think is the right price for me to ask him....???

I would offer $4,500 and go from there. His asking price is not all that bad. It doesn't really matter if the book says one price or the other. It all depends on if YOU think it is a good one and clean and up to date on maintenance. Some people will ask way too much, and others will ask less so they can sell it. It all matter on YOU, if you are happy with it or not. Some would say I paid too much and others think I got a good deal. I think I got a good deal because I got what I wanted and it was a good price. Good luck on your purchase.

i would offer what ever you are willing to pay for it. Some things or worth more to someone that really wants it. So really it seems it is worth as much or as little as you feel it is.

Just my 2 cents

I am confused again . Gimme me the price wht u r gonna pay for this one.
97 Impreza L Wagon
124k miles
Body, paint and interior are in good condition
Engine is also in good condition

the only thing I am doubtful is the clutch-

So gimme a good price to offer, considering both cases (with good clutch and with bad clutch). The price to replace a clutch will run around $700-$800 (as per svxfiles and LICMotorsports). Here r the values-

KBB-
Good - $4470
Fair - $3870

Edmunds-
Good - $3106
Fair - $2138

I don't understand what you are missing. Offer what you think the car is worth. If it is to much, walk away. This is a 97 Outback, not a 55 356C Cabriolet.

I am an Indian, not born american. Its like 3 years i have been in US and till now I only bought my SVX as my first car. So, I am not familiar with the car business (selling/buying stuff). The only thing I know is KBB and Edmunds. So, I thought you guys may be helpful by giving ur opinion on this, not to bother you all. Earl has already given his advise of $4500 (for a good condition one), so waiting for more replies.

thanks,
-Pavan

Black book or MAA for the car would be around 1900 or so based on mileage and average condition. Granted those are wholesale prices but I doubt I'd pay more than $2500-3k for the car. I could find 10 newer legacies that come with a dealer contract warranty for less than 4.9k in 15 minutes. Oh and the 3k was assuming that the clutch was functioning like it should, if not I'd drop another 1000 just because of the inconvinence. Granted I'm cheap but, maybe you need to go auto shopping with me .

Then take Earl's advice. Judge the condition of the car and use the published numbers as a guide, not gospel. Start at $4200 and negotiate from there. I thought it was explained clearly. If the car is overpriced, then walk. There will be MANY more used Outbacks out there. Again, you aren't looking for an exotic or collectible classic.

Correction: It's an Impreza. I still don't see the confusion. If it needs a clutch find another car. I like benebob's options. Find a nicer car for $4500, or offer $3000 and see what happens. With a VERY common car like this, there will be plenty of room to haggle. Again, my point is valid; if it was a specialty car, it's what you are willing to pay. For something so common, make a decent offer, but don't expect the guy to give it to you for $2000.
