Question noob questions about SVX purchase

I am a prospective SVX buyer (currently have an 02 WRX wagon ). I didn't see a n00b FAQ so I thought this would be the best place to ask my questions.

What years are the best to choose from? I know of the tranny issues but can fix that pretty easy.

How much $$$ would a later SVX go for with say 100k on the ticker?

With exhaust and ECU tweaks, could I get to ~260hp pretty easy?

Anyone autox their SVX?

Thanks!

Welcome to the site. I will try to answer your questions for you.

The years produced are from 92 to 97. The transmission upgrades were done in 94 and after, so they would be the best to choose from. The only exception to that would be a remanufactured tranny from Subaru. It should have the upgrades in it too. The other thing to consider is your color preference and option package. There were more 92s manufactured than any other model year.

Price is affected by miles, paint condition, service records, interior condition and modifications. You should expect to pay $5,000 to $9,000 for a 95 to 97 in fairly good shape with 100K on the clock.

You will not be able to get that much more power out of the car with just those tweeks. You can do a search and find out what helps though.

The answer to autoX is yes. You can watch for the discussions on it from time to time or do a search for it.

Hope that helps. Good luck with your search for a good one.

Hi forced4,

Here's a long 39 page thread about the Subaru Challenge autoX event that took place this past September at Ripken Stadium in Maryland:

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26895

We had a good turn-out, and around the end of the thread you'll find results and tons of pics!

These links will give you other useful info on the SVX:

Good luck and welcome!

Welcome. Here is a good site to help out with the options and year-to-year differences.

http://www.cars101.com/subaru_svx.html

All 94 L models were FWD along with some 95 L models. Everything else will be AWD.

Also, 92,93 and some early 94 models have automatic seatbelts. They added a passenger side airbag sometime in 94 and went to manual belts. I have noticed a few threads on auto seat belts breaking down. I would go for the manual belts. As an added bonus, they will also have the tranny upgrades.
