Plaques

I have been discussing with a wood carver who came into work about the idea of doing a master plug of the SVX World Network logo so that I could cast them. Before I proceed any further, has this been done already.

I don't think it has been done before.

It may be. I would think that it would depend on the size, material, and price.

Ok it 2 in the morning. Here is a 3D of what I am thinking about.
The letterring has not been applied yet (its late) Colours are not cast in stone just playing around. This plaque is about 6 1/2" long
3 1/4" wide and 1/2" thick.

That's pretty cool. What would the final product that results from this be? Sorry, not familiar with the process, etc, I just got that an original would be carved from wood, but from there are you saying others could easily (and cheaply) be made from wood, or is this for like casting some kind of metal, plastic.....???

Yes the plaques would be cast in plastic. Cheaply is what Iam trying for. Naturaly the first one is the big buck one. If I so desired, they, the finnished product, could look like wood but I am not leaning towards that. Feed back is welcomed.

Ahhh That makes sense!

Yeah, the finished product probably wouldn't need to look like wood, most likely a different look would be desired that would be acheived by painting them or something.

I've been trying to think up some uses for such a piece so that it would be worth the setup $$$ for you to do.

At that size the only thing I can think of is like you suggested, an accent piece that could mount onto a wood plaque for an award or something. But there aren't many award situations that come up here currently. Or were you thinking just as a piece by itself, as like a little decoration to hang up, glue to your toolbox, etc. (Hey just as I type that it started to sound cooler and cooler LOL)

Yeah, now that I think about it, maybe there would be a market for the logo just as a plastic decoration "thing", kinda 3D "sticker" to mount to your computer, your toolbox, your wall, heck even your SVX in place of the "Subaru SVX" plastic sticky thing on the rear window part (you know where I mean).

The other thing I could think of, is if you went probably half that size they might make cool key chains.

One last thought, would be to see if people wanted the writing on it or not. The way it is in your picture is kinda cool because it is generic, not just specific to this particular web site. It could pass as just a general SVX piece.

Sorry, lots of random thoughts. Depending how much money it is going to cost to do this project, I would definitely try to get more feedback and maybe even a little commitment from prospective buyers before you go for it.

Thats not a bad idea. Ok I will have the lettering removable.

Cool! Makes a great award plaque!

Of course certain organizations out there that could have a use for such awards have pretty much zero budget for such things and have to use paper certificates. Very cool though!

And like I said, there could be a big market for just the piece itself, if maybe you suggested people could mount it like a big 3D "sticker" to whatever they wanted, it's definitely a unique item.

That would make a great belt buckle. Kinda neat.

Just one little caveat: The network logo is owned by the SVX World Network. If it were placed on an image for sale, the Network would, naturally, expect a small stipend, which would go to support the club (which provides logo merchandise) and these forums.
