Engine installation

Ok, so I got the engine in most of the way. All four bellhousing bolts/nuts are started. But...

I am having trouble getting the studs on the bottom of the engine mount bushings to clear the crossmember. I started to drop the crossmember but after loosening the 12 bolts (3 in each corner of the crossmember) I still couldn't get it to budge. Are there more bolts? Am I taking the wrong approach to this?

If anyone has some wisdom to pass along I am all ears.

Re: Engine installation

Did you jack up the front of the transmission as much as possible? you shouldn't have to loosen the cross member to get the engine back in.

Re: Engine installation

I did jack the transmission up as much as I could. But maybe I will try more...tomorrow, anyways. Are there some bolts I should take out of the transmission?

Re: Engine installation

I thought I remembered dropping the rear of the transmission to let it tilt up. Been a while though.

Re: Engine installation

I've always just removed the dogbone and jacked up the front of the trans.

Re: Engine installation

The dogbone was enough. allowed the tranny to mate up quite nicely. Engine is in and I am about to try to start it very soon...

Re: Engine installation

I'm glad I didn't catch that on video! haha.

She started, sounded amazing, but then I lost some front seals...no idea how that happened. Losing quite a bit of oil from the front of the engine...what can you do....

My bet is the front main seal. Maybe I can salvage it? I don't know how it would have come out though...

Was hoping I would be able to listen to her for more than 10 seconds....

Oh well, at least she started
