factory stereo
When i bought my car a couple of months ago, the stereo works but the speakers are shot. So, I have never heard how the factory unit sounds. I was hoping it sounded pretty good so I could just put in new speakers. I am not a loud bebop music listener anyway. I just want to know if the factory unit with new speakers sound alright. THanks.

Re: factory stereo
It should sound decent with some new door speakers. They are prone to being blown partially from moisture and partially because they are 15+ year old OEM speakers. Won't sound amazing but it does alright for an OEM unit.

Re: factory stereo
thanks nate. I think I will just replace the speakers and be done with it.

Re: factory stereo
The factory stereo is fine for normal listening, and I like it kinda loud sometimes. I found some new-in-the-box speakers (Bazooka?) on eBay that cost more to ship than to buy.

Re: factory stereo
I like the OEM unit. No complaints.

Re: factory stereo
I agree, when I bought my car the speakers were all replaced by the previous owner, seems like some quality speakers, the factory unit sounded great, plenty of bass and mids for normal listening. Got loud as well.
However my factory unit decided to crap out and now it doesnt even power on. |

Re: factory stereo
I used it for a while, plenty of power. However one thing I have learned to appreciate about my aftermarket is the "Loud" feature, it adds a boost to highs and lows in low volume and makes music more full without having to crank it up.

Re: factory stereo
I'm running 100% factory and love it. I had to replace the CD unit (purchased a new one from Subaru), but otherwise going strong and it sounds fantastic, especially for the era.

Re: factory stereo
i recently re-installed the factory stereo in the polo. as little as i drive the car, it was a much cheaper option than replacing it with a new aftermarket headunit with an aux-in feature.
