The squeal!

Had an interesting intermittent "squeal" develop recently.

Thought it may have been power steering, or the altenator or ac pump.

It was not that obvious.

Turns out the crankshaft pulley has rubber between the crankshaft boss and the belt pulley. After 250,000+ Kms it had delaminated.

As a result, when power was applied, especially when cold, the pulley moved on the boss.

The squeal was the pulley rubbing on, and wearing a hole in, the timing belt cover.

There is no "quick-fix". A replacement front pulley cost me about NZD $500.00

I was lucky. The agents had one in stock.
