Smaller Diameter Steering Wheel
While I was sitting in the SVX the other day, trying to get the shift linkage where I wanted it, I noticed that with the steering wheel adjusted to my favorite position (1 click above all the way down, I think, maybe 2) my left leg is kind of wedged under the wheel when trying to operate the clutch. I think the solution to this is a smaller diameter wheel. Does anybody know of a Subaru wheel that is smaller than the SVX?

Re: Smaller Diameter Steering Wheel
I think finding one to fit would be hard and it might not fit to the coloumn which would make it look like dump..

I did the common WRX wheel swap, and there's a difference in legroom - at least enough that it gave me the clearance I needed. I haven't done any measuring, but I'm quite happy with the change.

Re: Smaller Diameter Steering Wheel
Owning both a WRX and an SVX, I can say that the stock WRX wheel is significantly smaller.
If it wasn't for giving up the airbag, I'd swap in a second. |

Re: Smaller Diameter Steering Wheel
Excellent info on the wrx wheel! Does anybody know for sure what size the wrx wheel is? I'm guessing maybe 320mm? If that's correct that would be about 2.5" smaller overall diameter, or 1.25" more room for me legs. Might just be enough.

Re: Smaller Diameter Steering Wheel
+1 good idea,,,
the one thing i dont like about the svx interior is the crappy steering wheel,.... feels like a buick or something, not the beast that the svx is... to thin and flexible and too big! the wrx (or sti) wheel is way nicer. also, you might think about MOMO steering wheels designed for wrx..... they are real nice, and are designed to mate with the column of the wrx. it is too bad about the airbag tho. imo |
