newbie needs a little help!

Hello...Figured I would introduce myself. I am Grizz from Northern Colorado. I recently picked up a 1994 Subaru SVX LS when my other vehicle was totalled in the tornado we had here in May. My mom had a 92 Pearl and thats where I found my love for this car.

I have seen my SVX on here under a post title "another ebay goof". I am the poor sucker that bought the car site unseen. Big mistake but when you get lemons, you got to make lemonade. The vehicle is in decent shape but I paid about $1200 more than it is worth. It has dents all up and down the side, no big deal to take them out, but the genius PO but a cheapy Maaco paint job over the damage...so to PDR the dents would probably trash the paint.

I got it and had to put new tires on it..even though the previous owner said that the tires were like new...2/32 like new...what a load. She also indicated a new alternator and battery, but after 300 miles or so the dash lights flickered so I removed the alt and took it to Checker when it was determined that it was dead.

I have a few mysterious things that I need help with...I have exhausted the search button on this forum and just need some guidance...please.

Whenever the car is driving and I step on the accelerator, there is a loud ROAR from the front end. No if it is in park...no roar.

I have check the exhaust, no leaks. The MAF is like new. The bearings are good all the way around. The brakes are new and functioning properly (even though they do squeak when applied, which is my other mystery. I have even taken all of the brakes off and applied stop squeak, but....this was a 2 day fix).

The tranny shifts as it should. The injectors are spotless. I am at my wits end. Any advise would be appreciated.

-grizz

Re: newbie needs a little help!

get a choice of weapon(s) and go fix the seller ~

.....isn't there some ebay thing that you can claim - the seller lying about the condition of the car....

What kind of pads are on it?
My brakes squealed and squeaked until I changed to good ceramic pads. Thought I needed all new rotors as well to fix the problem, but went with just new pads to see, and they're silent for the first time in a year!

Check the seals on the calipers. I just silenced my 92's sqeaky brakes. The seals in the calipers were leaking and causing the sqeaking.

Re: newbie needs a little help!

I found the car on ebay but conducted the deal outside of ebay.

The seals all appear to be intact...they are ceramic pads and *new*

maybe I have some warpage

That RAWR is the sound of AWESOME! 3.3 litres of AWESOME to be exact!

Anyways. where's the sound seem like it's coming from? Does it sound engine related, drivetrain related, braking related, exhaust related? What does it sound like? can it be compared to anything you can specifically identify already?

Re: newbie needs a little help!

Does the roar change with RPM? If it's under load only it's not bearings, almost definitely not exhaust...I'm going to be the one who spoils Christmas and say your front diff may be on the way out. In which case, I agree with DarknessofDeath above. I've got a sledgehammer you can borrow!

Re: newbie needs a little help!

well....it is the front differential...fortunately no tranny damage...unfortunately $1k to repair. We'll see how she runs when I get it back on Tuesday.

Oh well...it's just money...I'll make more...someday

Re: newbie needs a little help!

don't you have lemon laws? or is that just a ny thing, you should be able to take her to court for selling you a bad car if it's within a month of buying it.

Re: newbie needs a little help!

it would be more to fight it than to just deal with it.

I prefer a blow torch and a morning star w/ dull tips...or we can do a good old fashioned lynching...

nah...I already told her that I had been duped and she just said "oh well...buyer beware"

I hope Karma kicks her in the behind.

At least I'm fixing it as opposed to let another svx go the yard to rot.

Re: newbie needs a little help!

update....

When down to Aamco today to look at the carnage inside the differential...pretty chewed up, also the seal between the tranny and the diff failed so the 90 wt and ATF mixed causing damage to the internals of the tranny....

soooooooooooooooo.....$2600 to rebuild both the tranny and the diff....

damn.
