Passenger side front end clunk.
I just developed a clunk from the front passenger side. It persists even with the brakes depressed and is dependent on vehicle speed and changes sound as the steering wheel is turned. It only happens after driving for a couple of minutes and only at speeds above 5mph. With the front passenger wheel removed, the brake rotor seems loose on the hub but once the wheel was back on, I made sure that all of the lug nuts were tight. My best guess is a CV joint. The boots are perfect, not torn and there is a small amount of play in the axle but I believe that is normal. Any suggestions?

i had a silght 'clunk' in mine that was pretty obvious when I turned. It turned out to be the cv joint.

maybe...
...bad strut? I'm not sure, but that's the only thing I can think of that would be on just one side, and dependant on speed and wheel direction. It has to be linked to your steering it seems.

A "rythmic" clunk?
As in clunk, clunk, clunk...? Or just a one time clunk? If it's the former I'd also go with CV joint. Since that's really the only rotating part other than the bearings(which would be more of a "grind") that I can think of. If it's the latter it could be lots of things. Swaybar links, or mounts, strut, etc. But I'm assuming it's the former?

clunk clunk etc
could be the brake caliper. if something like a bent hub or wraped roter exixted long enough to put stress on the side of the caliper, not the bolt side but the hinge side, the bearing will wear enough to clunk.

Hmmm, it is a rhythmic clunk so its probably the CV joint.I will take a look at the caliper. My rotors have been warped for awhile.

CV sounds most likely...
I developed a quiet clicking sound a month ago. I thought it was the cv, but thought it strange when it turned into a louder clicking when going straight as well...
About an hour after the louder clicking started, it began clunking. It now sits in a parking lot with a bad front diff. and the CV is perfectly fine after being inspected. Anyway, I was getting at...look at it right away, just in case it ends up being a major pain! lol |

Ok, it was a bushing on the caliper that wore down because of the warped rotors. kwren (Keith) called it, thanks for the help. Now to buy some rotors and pads...
