Um, where'd that security system go...?

Okay guys, just took apart the glove box (pain in the ASS, I hope I can get it back together..), and had a peek around. I found a big silver box with relays coming out of it (cruise control module), a small black box with a wiring harness coming out of it (door lock timer?), and a 17-pin wiring harness just kinda hanging out. I'm guessing this harness went into the security module, since it also has bad wiring splicings coming out of it.

There's also a two-pin wiring harness that is connected and all, but the duct tape around it makes me wonder what exactly it is. Here's a photo of what's behind my glove box.

Anyone care to take a stab at putting labels on the parts in that photograph? I don't wanna mess around with stuff unless I'm positive I know what it is. My big questions are the two wiring harnesses next to one another--the 17-pin yellowish one and the 2-pin brown one.

Thanks.

P.S. Anyone have a security module they wanna sell me?

Um, as I recall from pulling apart my 95, the cruise control is actually on the inside of the cabin, on the wall behind the drivers seat. The click noise that comes from that location when I activate the cruise control tells me the same's true of my 96.

When I pulled apart my 95, it had "Cruise control module" written all over it... that's how I knew what it was

In both my 90 Legacy and this 92 SVX I swear I hear the "click" from behind the glove box.

Anyway, I put the car back together (after doing the ECU crush mod, woot!) and it runs, so I'll leave it be until I can get together a fund for buying a new security module. Damn that SVX DVD, I would've had enough too!

In the later years, the module was in the trunk, but the 92s, and 93s were behind the glove box. It sounds like it was tanken out and not replaced.

The 17-pin harness is indeed for the security module. To answer your first question: Yes, your security module is definitely missing.

If some of those wires have been hacked, it sounds like a previous owner (or an installer) might have tied into some of the wires there to add an after-market alarm. That would explain the factory module being removed.

I can't make out the 2-pin connector, so I don't know what that might be. The duct tape does suggest somebody messed with it, perhaps at the same time as the alarm wires.

In the 94-97s, both the cruise control module and cruise control main relay are definitely on the lower left side, behind the driver. The Door Lock Timer module is behind the glovebox.

I think on the 92-93s the Door Lock Timer module is further down in the right side footwell. Not sure about the cruise control module.

On all years, the Time Control Unit module is behind the glovebox. So that's one of the things you're seeing.

The stock system isn't worth the money or the recurring hassles — the modules seem to die too easily. Go after-market. You can have more features for lower cost (and less expensive remotes too), all while connecting just to the 17-pin security harness.
