Crank Pulley
My crank pulley just broke and i have to fix it. The dealer is asking for $194 and 1stsubaruparts.com is asking for $139. Then i found some pulleys on eBay on the link below.
http://search.ebay.com/svx-pulley_W0...ageNameZRC0022 they are lot cheaper but i would like to know: Is under drive crank pulley and crank pulley the same? Would you recommend me putting these pulleys on my car if they are the same? Is it easy to install? because there are some angle marking on the top? Does anyone hove one for sale? Thanks Max |

I've heard good and bad things about the cheaper underdrive crank pulley you are looking at, but I don't know if its the same thing as a regular crank pulley. However I know just from what they look like on the car you can easily change it yourself and I'm sure some of the more knowledgable SVXers on here can give you simple and detailed instructions onhow to do so...just give them time to see the thread and reply.

The one piece aluminum crank pulleys are significantly lighter than the stock ones. This gives you a bit more power because the engine doesn't have to put as much torque into spinning the pulley. The underdrive pulleys are smaller, so the engine doesn't have to do as much work to turn the accesories. This results in a bit more power, but you accessories (alternator...) turn slower, so if your alternator or anything else isn't working 100% you might have issues.
The underdrive pulley also requires a new shorter belt, which should be included. Dayle at Motorsports sells the pulleys, if you want to buy one directly, instead of over Ebay. Click me!

The difficulty in installing is keeping hte crank still while you turn the wrench. THey'r eon theree pretty good. Underdrive pulley will cause your serpentine belt to go around slower, which means at low/idle rpm, your power steering won't be as effective, your battery won't recharge as quickly, etc.

This is the standard sized, light weight pulley. 1.5 lbs instead of 4.75 stock.
This is the underdrive pulley.

I like the standard size pulley because it doesn't change anything except the weight.
