Question Re: coolant temperature sensor question

1995 SVX - I bought a temp sensor, Subaru part #22630, to fix the dreaded "Code 21" cold start problem. The new switch wire connection on my original sensor has two wires entering the switch - OK. The new sensor has a 1/2" plug connection that does not resemble the original connectors. (I'm looking at the temp sensor that is installed directly below the Temp Gage sensor at the rear drivers side.) What's with that!

Sounds like you got the wrong sensor. What's the part number and how much did it cost?

Thanks for the quick reply!

22630AA041 Temperature Sensor. I Paid approx $23.00. I asked for a "car club" discount and the dealer said....Okay. They wanted $35.57
Looking at Subaru Parts.com, is this the correct sensor for the cooling fans?:
Part #22630 at:
http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...ategory=036A-1

This new part looks exactly like the sensor on the top rear left side of the engine...except that the electrical plug is different.

I'm puzzled. Or, is there actualy electrical plug change?

That's the right part. There should be 2 wires going to it.

Make sure you're not looking at the other sensor on the engine (for the temp gauge).

Pic of the correct sensor

Here is a picture of the correct sensor. If yours doesn't look like this, bring it back; they may have accidentally gotten the boxes switched. The two sensors are color coded, so it's easy to pick out the one to remove from your intake manifold.

Ya know, this IS the time of year that the crappy fuel comes out....and you know what they say, "Garbage in = garbage out."
