Center Console Glove Box Latch Replacement
I bought my SVX with the locking / latch mechanism missing from the center console glove box of my car. The actual lock is there, but the push-button was missing. I bought the replacement from subaruparts.com but am not sure how to replace it.
In case I am using the wrong term for this part, here is the exploded diagram of the console from subaruparts.com: http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...category=930-A It is part #3 in the diagram. I don't see any clear way to get to the two screws that hold the entire locking / latching mechanism in. Am I missing something obvious? Has anyone replaced this part before? Any help is appreciated! Thanks! |

I've got a complete console out in my garage. It's a little late to go digging for it now, but, I'll try to get it out tomorrow and see if I can offer any insights. That is, unless someone else answers your question before then.

Okay, curiosity got the better of me. I went into the garage and dug out the console.
Sorry to say it, but you'll have to pull the console to install the button. The console is relatively easy to pull. Attaching screws are located underneath the felt pad in the bottom of the console and (I think) under the ashtray. Once it's out, you'll need to go underneath and unscrew the 6 screws that attach the front padded section (that surrounds the gear shift lever and e-brake handle). Once that padded section is removed, the two screws that attach the button are obvious (they sit on each side of the button). As an illustration, considering the "dash" as the button and "*" as screws, looking from the top, it's *-*. So, there's no "easy" way of doing it without removing the console.
