Lights on AC Control

Hi Gang,

The blue in my temperature control for the Climate control is out. My searching only found ways to replace the dash lights. How do you replace this light and what is the part #?

Thanks!

Good question. I don't remember anyone asking this question or attempting this fix before.

I don't know of any easy way to even get access to that light.

I can't swear to it, but I seem to remember a post from a year or so ago that said it couldn't be done, had to buy a new module. I'd do a lot of searching for it, but just in case there's one on EBay now, but don't know if it will work for you, they don't list it as fitting a 92 model.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33545

SubaruParts.com shows the same part number for a 92 AWD and a 94 2WD, but I have no personal knowledge to say for sure.

The one from ebay will work...provided you don't mind that it doesn't match the rest of your interior.

Not true. The red/blue arrows and backlight lights could all be replaced. The digital display itself can't be. I fixed the the red arrow light on mine. The same Radio Shack type of bulbs that fit in dashboard and panels will fit there.

It is fairly involved - probably too much money if a professional will do it. The climate control unit has to come out. Once it is out, it has to be opened and the bulb replaced.

The full procedure is in the service manual, but roughly - the instrument cluster has to be removed first, vent above the climate control next. Climate control unit has a couple of harness connectors and an air pipe that all have to be disconnected before it can be removed.

Interested to find out

Thanks for the replys. I am interested in what it takes to replace. If anyone has a diagram that they could scan and email it would be appreciated. Things like lights being out drive me crazy.

I also have to replace a few dash lights (cruise, alarm, fog) but haven't gotten to them yet. Something to do this winter.

Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, Lwin (Seraph) has tackled the electronics on this little baby (as he has almost everything else). You might drop him a PM, just in case he's still swamped with his Oracle class.

Subaru loves to use tiny incandescent lamps instead of LEDs. I have no idea why they do this, but it's a total pain in the ass. I couldn't believe it when I bought a spare dash cluster and climate control and found hundreds of little bulbs in these things...unreal...
