Happy Virus Day!

Cheese! I bet I've gotten a dozen viruses today alone.

I thought my two A/V's were stopping them. (I use Norton and AVG, both of which are up-to-date.) But I received a "email not delivered" message about a "Re: Thank You" email coming from my computer, to an address that is not even in my address book.

If anyone got anything from me (wasions@etc.), I want to apologise in advance, but please PM me here and tell me what it is so I can deal with it. I'm not getting back into Outlook until I find out what's the deal.

It was probably the new kles/weber variant.

I received 9 copies of that virus yesterday. It takes names from your address book and uses them as the from address for sending itself out to the entire address book.

So it wasn't you that was infected, but someone who had you in their address book.

I had messages with address from various senators, media companies (the kind that own TV and Radio stations), and other government agencies, so I can't figure out who had me in their address book. Maybe the CIA?

I did a full system scan, and came up clean (rah!). Opened up Outlook again and received six more. No wonder the internet is so slow today with all this crud floating around.

The best defense of all......An old computer thats too stupid to catch a virus. I heard about the MSBlast worm a few weeks before it hit hard from the owner of another message board I frequent. He made an announcement about it, and provided a link to the patch. Now my computer is immune. I also never caught the Sobig virus either. There's somethin to say for not opening e-mail attachments and not keeping an address book.....

Yepp. My addressbook is in my PDA and in my AutoPC. Worst case, a simple format will do the job. So I am not too worried about it.
