Autocross Tire size...

Suddenly the 245/45s I'm running on the Bill-Stock ESP SVX aren't looking all that wide

ESP Camaro @ this year's SCCA Nationals event....

Chike,
yeah, it will be interesting to see where the "knee in the curve" is regarding how wide a tire to go with on the SVX. The 245/45s are definitely an improvement over the 225/50s. That Camaro has to be running at least 315/45s!

I think I'll be running 245/45/16's next year when I autox - however, I will stay on a true street tire, rather than R compound.

Our cars are similar in weight & weight distn to the new V8 Audi S4 which uses a 235 sized tire. The R34 Skyline Z-tune that makes over 500 awhp and weighs in at ~3500lbs, has 265 sized tires. Personally, I feel a tire size around 245-265 would probably be the biggest we'll want to go on our cars.

I don't 'officially' autocross, but I've been running 245s on the last two sets I've owned. If wider tires were available from a reputable manufacturer, I'd be running 'em. My previous Michelins Sport Cups were really wide. My current Bridgestone Potenzas are noticeably narrower. They're both 245s, but Michelins tend to run wide. ...so, for those of you who want the extra inch, go Michelin.

Hoosiers are wider as well it seems in most cases. Bill Dave is gonna talk $$$ about those 275s. Paul thinks he can mount 'em on the stock rims!!!

Is your gas mileage going down alot(how many mpg?) by running wider tires?
