Thoughts about 4.44 or 4.11 anyone?

So i'm going to do the 4.44 or 4.11 swap but i'm not quite sure which way to go. I love to drive fast everywhere, but I also take trips on the highway speeds quite a bit. I read in the 4.44/4.11 swap list that the 4.44 seems to be more reliable than the 4.11 and it seems by the looks of that list that there are more 4.44s. I need the tranny to last at least 3 years until I get out of school and can get a job to get money to get a six speed. Here's how I see it:

3.54: Smoothest, but mine is broken and I'd definitely like some more torque

4.11:Quite a bit more torque that stock, but my i'm not completely confident that it will last because of what was said in the 4.11/4.44 list thread (I think it was svxfiles). This is the one I'd like to get but the potential unreliability makes me wary.

4.44: Definitley the fastest, but I want to cruise on the highway a bit and this will be my only car... What rpm is 70, 80, 90?

Thoughts?

Well....look at it this way....
It will turn the same RPM's as the car you get it from did at the same speeds....

Yeah, it'll be more RPM's than the stock gears, but nothing that would be damaging to a motor.

Yeah, I guess it's not too big of a difference. I just wanted to think it all the way through before I spent some of the little money I have... Well, I picked up a transmission today. It came from a 95 Legacy with 39,000 miles on it! The guy wasn't sure of the gearing, but either way i'm really excited. I read in a thread that most legacy's have 4.44 so it should be fun

Actually, most Legacys have 4.11's....only the Legacy GT and Legacy Outback had the 4.44's, if I recall correctly....

Re: Thoughts about 4.44 or 4.11 anyone?

I wonder if the rear Diff on the 4.44 is stronger than the stock SVX diff. I read that someone stated the transmissions were weaker than the normal SVX 4EAT's but i could be wrong. My friend showed me the diff on his 240sx and it is literally 4x the size of our stock ones.

Huh, well I guess I was mislead... Is there any way to check the gearing? Like count teeth or maybe by the serial number?

Here's the post (#69)

The number on the tranny (by the starter hole) should be able to be matched to a list posted on here somewhere to see what gears it has in it.....or you can get the VIN from the car and a Subaru dealer can tell you what came in that car.
