what causes "tire scrubbing" on tight turns?
Especially when backing up the SVX shudders or scrubs...much like a locked up posi unit on a differential. It seems like it is the front tires making the noise, but there is no tire marks on the pavement.
Any ideas? Dave |

Re: what causes "tire scrubbing" on tight turns?
Are you turning sharply when it happens? If so it's likely the notorious solonoid C problem causing AWD bind.

Re: what causes "tire scrubbing" on tight turns?
If it is the AWD binding, take your car to an empty parking lot and begin doing a lot of figure 8s with the steering lock to lock. Increase the speed as much as reasonable to get some extra torque. After 15 min. of this any binding should be relieved, unless you have a bad solenoid or some other problem. AWD binding is common especially on cars which are not driven a lot.

Quote:
That solenoid is what controls the AWD transfer clutch, and when it gets cranky it applies either full or zero line pressure (not sure which) to the clutch , the end result of which is that your front and rear wheels are being forced to turn at the same speed. In tight turns where the wheels follow different radii through the curve, a couple are either dragged or forced to skip ahead.
