Trunk opening problem !
Hey guys,
that problem really starts to kill me since I can'T really put anything in the trunk beside folding the rear seats. First, I don'T have the key for the trunk, I have 4 keys and none of them fit in the hole. The front lever doesn't work at all to open the trunk (It was working when my friend showed it to me. He just told me I had to flip some part to have it shut properly, otherwise it won't close. So here I am, I can fold the seats no problems..I tried to sneak inside the trunk and play with the latch..I though at first the lock switch kept it from opening..but it won't budge on any setting. Beside prying it open with a crowbar, any tip ? thanks ! Simon |

The lever beside the driver seat should open it for you. I'm in the same boat. 2 keys, neither of them open the trunk. The lever beside the seat operates a cable. What you must do is this; open the trunk. Across the lock is a grey plastic cover about 18" long. Take it off. It prises off, but go gently so you don't break or damage it. Looking down underneath the lock you will see the cable coming in from the side. While looking at this cable, get someone to pull the lever in the car. If the cable moves at all, at least it is connected inside. If it does not move, the cable is broken, or disconnected from the lever inside. Depending how good you are at fixing things, if it's broken beside the driver seat, you may want to let a dealer do it. To get it off, you need to remove the driver seat, the rear window trim and the sill trim. If pulling the lever is moving the cable, it should be possible to adjust it inside the trunk so it pulls the latch to open the trunk. If this is not possible, you may be back to square one, new cable, dealer fit. OK? Joe

Hiya,
Are you sure its the wrong key or not just the lock seized? I find allot of cars have a stiff or not working lock due to the remote cable being used from inside the car, try a penetrating oil like WD40 in the key hole for a couple of days and with a spare key work the lock. If you can get the lock open by the cable or hooking the lock from inside the trunk you will be able to remove the barrel and get a good locksmith to cut you a key. Darren

I've found on the three SVXi I've owned the inside release lever works, but the trunk doesn't "pop" up, so when I release the lever, the trunk latch re-engages and the trunk won't open. If I stick something under the release lever to hold it up, then I can go around and open the trunk. Also, on one of my SVXi I thought the trunk key I had didn't work (it didn't turn), but it turned out that the lock cylinder was completely full of crud and corrosion and seized up. I took the cylinder apart, cleaned and lubed it, and then the key worked fine.

The other possibility is that the little lever in the trunk has been moved to the lock position. If that is the case, you can not open it with the latch release under the seat. Open the trunk and move it to the other position.
If your struts are worn out, the trunk will not move up enough to keep it unlatched. Hope this helped.

i found that if i accidentally let the trunk shut to had it will lock the trunk pop. the cable looks like it could come diconnected pretty easy also. it has a little ball on the end that hooks on a lever right under the switch to lock and unlock the pop.

How the trunk release works
Quote:
The driver's key should turn the ignition, open both doors, the glovebox, and the trunk. The valet key will only open the doors and turn the ignition. It won't even go into the trunk or glovebox -- stops after about 1/4". Now if all of your keys are valet keys, ask a dealer to make you a new driver's key (or two!). If you do have a driver's key and it won't go into the trunk, then the cylinder is probably gummed up, as Darren suggested. I suppose it's possible that the car had some of the locks replaced (after some body work or theft damage?). But I'd think a driver's key would still go in all the way and just not turn. As for the remote release and opener cancel... Quote:
Here's the switch, looking at the trunk lid from the outside, with the lid open (click thumbnails for larger images): As Earl said, when that switch is up, the trunk lever near the driver no longer works. Quote:
In your car the remote release lever might be blocking the Cancel switch from swinging all the way back down. If so, try pushing the release lever the opposite direction than how the cable normally pulls it, so that the Cancel switch can swing down past it. These pictures are looking down at the lower portion of the trunk latch, showing the release lever and cable. The grey plastic cover has been removed: The cable pulls the bottom half of the remote release lever. The top of the lever nudges the Opener Cancel switch (when it's in the "off" or down position), which in turn pops the trunk latch. So try pushing the cancel switch even further down. It will actually start to disappear inside the plastic latch housing. That should pop the trunk latch. If you can swing the cancel lever all the way down but it won't move the last bit to pop the trunk, then something is really munged inside the latch mechanism. Cleaning the cylinder from the keyhole side might fix things. You may also need to spray into the latch (inside the plastic around the Opener Cancel switch). I'd stuff some rags around the lock and latch on the inside to catch any excess cleaner that leaks through.

Good Job David. That should really explain what needs to be done.
