You can get a ticket for this.........

It a two lane road and there is a traffic light up ahead. About 50 feet from the light a left turn only lane starts. The middle of the road, before the left turn lane, is painted with diagonal double yellow lines filling in the area between my side of the road and the other side of the road before the left turn lane starts. It si about 75 feet long. During heavy traffic times both lanes fill up at least 200 feet before the light.

I am in the long line of traffic and want to make a left turn at the light. No one is in the left turn lane up in front of me to the left. I move forward each time the light turns green. When I get to the yellow lines in the middle of the road I drive over them into the left turn lane.

It is illegal and I watched people get tickets for this on route 1. It seemed as though the police did this every morning at this intersection. Heck, they were getting about two drivers per red light.

I'd go to court and argue that. Yes, breaking the law, but a common courtesy to not stop up traffic in the moving lane by getting out of the way early.
The cops in this case are just making money. They wonder why some people disrespect them. I play it cool with cops (lived with them for years) but I would be spitting mad if they tried to ticket me for this. I'd probably end up with a disorderly conduct along with the traffic ticket.

That bites

With all the people running red lights and stop signs and not signalling etc., they have to run a sting on that.

Same thing turning right. I got a ticket about 5 years ago for that. Fought it with the DA and it never even went to court. It was way worth it.
