Garage sales are cool!

A coworker's neighbor was selling about 40 1:18-scale model cars, still in their boxes. Some of them were damaged, some were not. Upon closer inspection, a couple I bought were more damaged than I thought, but easiliy fixed. I hauled away:

Ferrari 288GTO (WOO!)
Ferrari 250TR
Mercedes 300SLR
Bugatti EB110
Lancia 037 Rally car
Renault Alpine 1600S
Lamborghini Jota
Shelby GT500 (for my Mustang-obsessed friend)

$30

Thumbs up Re: Garage sales are cool!

Holy cow, those were some good deals! My favorite models of the ones you collected are: Shelby GT500, Mercedes 300SLR and the Ferrari 288 GTO!

That was some great bargain hunting!

I would agree - "Garage sales are Cool!"

That is why I try to stay away from them. I should have a few myself.

The 288 is gorgeous, and so is the 300SLR, but I have to say that the two Kyosho models I bought - the Lancia and the Jota - are much more pretty than the Burago and Maisto models in the same haul. A friend of mine also bought about 8 of them, and the Kyosho models he got are much heavier and more more detailed than I'm used to seeing.

Still, the 288 was the one I went for. I have a 1:24 288 on my desk that I put together as a kid. I think I've had that model for like 18 years now, but I've never found a 1:18 288 before.

Re: Re: Re: Garage sales are cool!

The 288 GTO was one awesome car back in 1984 and was the fastest production car at the time if my memory serves me correctly...

What I love most about it is the design of the body, and how it was copied in later Ferrari models like the Testarossa, 512TR, and 355. You can even see elements of it in the 360 Modena.

It's one Gorgeous car!

I just took some of the models out of their boxes, and the detail in the Kyosho models is unreal - they make the Burago models look like cheap toys. The Lancia 037 Rally car and the Lamborghini Jota have spark plug wires, little hoses for their horns, cloth harnesses, the steel tubular frames are duplicated...wow...

Kyosho car models are some of the best out there for the money! I've never been dissapointed with a purchase - bought a 1:18 scale R34 Skyline GT-R model last year.

In comparison, my two Burago 1:18 scale SVT Lightning and Corvette models look very cheap and down market...

Hey Nick

I've got an original Car & Driver that tests the 288 GTO. I kept it for the test and a review of the Studebaker Avanti.

Great magazine.
