Fuse question...

ok, well, i thought i was going to get my car back on monday, but i guess it wasn't to be. i did get the ecu in and all, but the dealer told me i needed a new fuse. they ordered one, but it won't be here till tuesday b/c they said they can't special order it for some reason. first question...what does this fuse protect? the part number is 82211FC080...i assume it's related to the ECU, but am not sure. secondly...if this is related to my ECU, why would this fuse be toast? i'm thinking maybe a big electrical surge fried some stuff...or is it just normal to replace it with a new one?? but maybe i'm all wrong and this fuse has nothing to do with the ecu...or maybe it's one of many of the same fuses on the SVX. any input would be great...i'm just curious, is all

The fuse could be one of many. What I find interesting is that they didn't know it was blown before replacing the ECU. That's usually the first thing to check - all of the fuses. Have they told you why the fuse blew? They don't blow from just sitting there looking pretty.

The one I came up with was $2.43... there are a lot of 'mains' in the underhood fuse box.

What would suck is if the fuse was the problem all along. What would suck even more would be trying to figure out why it blew.

It would take a serious short to blow an 80 amp fuse. But still, there is the possibility that the fuse had fatigued from old age and heat, and a normal load killed it off.

I hope someone at least takes the time to stick a multimeter in the socket and makes sure that the short is not still present before wasting a brand new fuse.

those main fuses, if it's the ones I'm thinking of, are universal. You should be able to goto a junk yard and pop one out of any car really. Prefurably another subbie
