Had high idle for years finally fixing.
I have been plaged by a high idle for years but I think I am finally getting on top of the problem. I have done all the usal things like replace the idle value, all the bad hoses etc. I had a number of issues first the rubber hose onto the engine block for the crank case breather was cracked. The PVC value under the intake manifold was not closing and needed replacing. Last and most surprising was that the throttle body was badly worn so you could see light around the butterflys. I had a spare one and it closed fully so I put that on. The car now runs perfect. About to take it back to the dessert so hope its good.

Yours is a very worthwhile post as there have been several reports regarding confusing issues relating to idling problems. It would be very worthwhile if you could provide greater detail as to the nature of the wear which you located. In particular as to any probable evidence visible, without removing the throttle body, e.g. worn butterfly spindle bearings, erratic closing, or whatever. Many will be interested.
