Bush said during the 2000 campaign that Clinton wasn't doing enough to put pressure on oil producers.... Heck, it was during the same conference he said he didn't believe the U.S. should be involved in Nation building.
With all this flip flopping going on, it's untelling which side has the ball.

What was that Lee? 43% comes from Opec. That's the biggest single chunk on the diagram. And, last time I checked, 16 + 13 = 29, not > 43

I believe Lee is referring to the statistics posted by the Department of Energy.
Crude Oil and Total Petroleum Imports Top 15 Countries August 2006 Import Highlights: Released on October 17, 2006 Preliminary monthly data on the origins of crude oil imports in August 2006 has been released and it shows that two countries have each exported more than 1.65 million barrels per day to the United States. Including those countries, a total of four countries exported over 1.00 million barrels per day of crude oil to the United States (see table below). The top five exporting countries accounted for 67 percent of United States crude oil imports in August while the top ten sources accounted for approximately 87 percent of all U.S. crude oil imports. The top sources of US crude oil imports for August were Canada (1.850 million barrels per day), Mexico (1.652 million barrels per day), Saudi Arabia (1.477 million barrels per day), Venezuela (1.151 million barrels per day), and Nigeria (0.898 million barrels per day). The rest of the top ten sources, in order, were Iraq (0.620 million barrels per day), Angola (0.525 million barrels per day), Algeria (0.506 million barrels per day), Ecuador (0.285 million barrels per day), and Brazil (0.196 million barrels per day). Total crude oil imports averaged 10.537 million barrels per day in August, which is an increase of 0.384 million barrels per day from July 2006. Canada remained the largest exporter of total petroleum products in July, exporting 2.464 million barrels per day to the United States. The second largest exporter of total petroleum products was Mexico once again (1.757 million barrels per day) which was a slight increase from last month of 0.048 million barrels per day. Gene

Opec?
I did not say we do not get a large share of our oil from OPEC members. Of course it should be noted that OPEC includes OTHER than gulf states. It also includes African nations and Venzuela. My comments still stand.
As an interesting sidelight that shoots down your Bush Administration "fixing" theory, OPEC is meeting right now to decide whether or not to CUT oil production by 1M barrels per day to play with the supply side of the equation. Hardly sounds like Bush is influencing production---just like I said before. I am sure that the administration (as would any US administration--regardless of party) will lobby to maintain current production levels which have been in force for over a year. Still $2.28 for regular. 10 cents less across the county line. Stick it to those college students.
