FYI: There is no need to remove the motor assembly if you just need to replace the mast. It can be removed and replaced from the top in about 10 minutes without any extra disassembly.

The tether is actually pretty tough, I don't think we've seen many reports of it breaking. Most people who have had problems have just had bent or broken masts, often from running through automatic car washes or very high speed runs on the highway.

You guys might want to consider updating your how-to's to include just the mast removal procedure at the beginning of the document, so people don't end up spending an hour disassembling their trunk for no reason.

Mine was. The antenna was stuck about halfway up (aided by electrical tape) when I bought the car. Looked as if the mast got bent while extended, and I guess the leader snapped when it retracted to the point where it was crimped. I just rewound the new one by hand and installed it with the mast in the fully-retracted position.

EDIT: Chris, after looking at your photo, I think I might try to glue the broken piece of plastic back into place with epoxy, then put a screw-type hose clamp around the assembly. I imagine it was broken by someone trying to remove the motor assembly without loosening the retaining nut topside; can't see how there could be much stress in that spot.

Actually it got broke in the mail and stupid me didn't have insurance on it

Since Chris has his non-working antenna as well, we're trying to make the best of it so he can get his radio working.

Ya I havent messed with the antenna recently.. I'm having another problem with the car now which is much bigger I think .. I'm not even driving the car ..
its sitting in front of my house
