brake pads without shims?
according to brakewarehouse, the axxis metalmasters are so quiet they dont need shims so they dont come with them.
I know many of you guys have them..., true?

hah!
I used the AXXESS Metalmasters without shims and they squealed so badly that with 50% pad remaining I changed them out for OEM pads because I was so tired of the squealing and embarassment. I would suggest you use shims or just go with OEM pads.

When I purchased my SVX, someone had just replaced them with the metalmasters and they squealed horribly as well. They were only worn 10% but i replaced them with oem pads and shims. The squealing went away and the braking was considerably smoother.

Yeah, it seems its BS, that t doesnt need shims.. however, I;m such a sucker for new things that I bought
AXXIS Ultimates, they have the shims built right in! TM I figure, Since I have 40% left int he back I ill just upgrade oem all around if I dont like the AXXIS ones.

I say stick with the O.E.M. pads, but has anyone tried the Carbon Metallics? I'm curious to know whether they are worth it or not.

2 words: Anti-squeal Gel.
That stuff works. I'm using EL CHEAPO brake pads to the tune of less than $20/set, and they are fine. Just as long as you get a good coating where the shims would have been, between the caliper piston and the back of the brake pad, along with a good coating of anti-seize on the slider pin and where the pad sits on the caliper, you'll be allright.
