Hey, I must have been more jarred than I recall the night we discussed this.

What size are the rotors, then, Todd?

I guess I am one of those stock US people. I just love the car the way it came and i think you are taking away from it to mod it in those ways. Not only visually but mechanically. That car was built for a mature distinguished luxury sport car ride. I beleive the best class to compare would be the Lexus sc 300-400.

Saying that, I know the amount of effort that went into the SVX was great and I have had many Subarus in my time too. That car was advanced in every way and 12 years later it is still equal to the cars being produced in the mid class. That right there says alot. I like it just the way it is supposed to be! But I will tell you what, I spend more $ than my friends who mod out there cars, to just keep mine in good condition. If it keeps going like that I would never be able to afford to mod the car.

Oh well, top each there own.

You must hide it well my friend!

Unsure, as they haven't been purchase yet. As large as possible, but need to fit within my 17" wheels. I'll probably dump my stock wheels to recoup some expense.

I don't suppose you have any pics of your Monzas to put in your locker do you? Always glad to see any photos of the old autobahnstormers.

As for creating the ultimate SVX, after first saying "Bye bye" to the standard alloys I would then bore out the block. How much can the flat six be bored out to? I like the idea of a four litre SVX.

Please Sir, I want more.

Greg, I am with you in spirit. I like the car exactly as it is. So much so in fact, that I would like it to be able to do MORE of the same.

Having been in a number of clubs where there is a keen connoisseur of the marque [any marque or car, all have their champions] who believes the car to be perfect, I respect this approach, very conservative and respectful of the achievements of the designers. This approach normally takes the view there is no room for improvement, or improvement is not necessary, or often, improvement will make the car "non-standard", a mortal sin and capital crime combined.

While respecting this viewpoint, I don't hold with it. Any car can be optimised within the spirit of the original design, which will have had compromises for cost and marketing reasons. Nobody can expect me to believe that the SVX gearbox should fail as often as it does, or the rear bearings, or the brakes could not be better, or the lights are adequate for the speeds achievable.

These are the places I would expect and like MORE. My best expectation would be to achieve more torque, better braking, better transmission reliability, better lights, and all of this while keeping the car looking, sounding and feeling exactly the same as it now does.

In other words I am looking to improve on the faults of the original, not MODIFY [I know, I know, a dirty word! ] the car. For anyone who can't see the faults in the original design, ignore this post, you will not understand the need.

Joe

I like the SVX exactly the way that it is. Including the wheels, suspension, brakes and blue-green floor mats.

If money was no object (as per the original question), my only change would be to make it even faster. But I would want to do so without loosing any of the refinement - which is an essential part of the SVXperience.

Dare I suggest: A V12 engine from Mercedes or BMW?

(I know I wasn't the only one drooling over those 850's at Gaydon last year)

Nice. And in anthracite if I'm not very much mistaken. The same colour mine was before its restoration. Was yours a manual or an auto?

Good job the moderator on this forum is a long-time fan of Opel Monzas, or straying so far off topic would not be tolerated!

Never been lucky enough to have a Monza, but I have to say, yes, like the SVX, these are very under-rated coupes, very capable and very roomy.

Wasn't there also a rebodied Swiss or German version, not sure of the name, Blitzen or something like that?

Oh dear, oh dear,

I do hope that car of yours has a sunroof.

To accommodate that rapidly swelling head!

If there is to be Swedish meet, then afterwards we could have a Swedish Meet Ball.....and look at schnapps of SuperSonic's speedometer. Apologies, Sonar, but you are asking for it.

Exclamation

In the interests of sanity and scientific verification, I feel it only correct to point out that quoted top speed for any car is taken as the mean [sum of the maximum speeds in both directions divided by 2] of two timed runs made in opposite directions, to cancel the effect of tail or headwinds.

And I have never seen a verified case of any or these speed tests being carried out behind or in the wake of a Porsche 911

So maybe if SuperSonic's car was measured in this way, and without the intercooler level of cold air they have oop North in Sweden, maybe his max speed crown might slip a little.

But meanwhile......... , we Europeans hold the record!

Yay!!
