Don't know what to call it, but want to remove it

The title says it all pretty much except for describing the part.

It's the body colored part just in front of the upper part of the trunk lid, extends forward under the back-side windows. Additional hint: the power radio antenna goes through the part.

Only part of my car where the clearcoat has worn through. Thinking about some graphic treatment until I can afford a proper paint job. Ideas?

I know of no such part. But I have something similar that matches the color of my roof.

Sorry not sure how to get that off.

You need the REAR QUARTER GARNISH. Here is the link to the clips and pins needed. Garnishes are NLA

https://www.subaruparts.com/auto-par...ter-panel-scat

http://opposedforces.com/parts/svx/u...llustration_2/

They came pre-finished, but have been discontinued and NLA. However the clips are still available.

The main issue now is that 25-year-old plastic is brittle and the molded-in clip holders, in the back of the garnish, break and there is nothing to hold the clip. The intent now is to to break the clips, not the clip holders on the garnish

According to the diagram there is 1 pin and maybe 9 clips

Sounds like you might know this from experience. If so, how was it put back?

I've done this as well. You have to order all the clips and the pin in advance. If i remember correctly it's 6 clips and 1 pin on each side. You'll also need some adhesive remover to clean up the rubber trim pieces and some weather strip adhesive to reattach them. Also be very careful in trying to clean up the quater garnishes before painting them; the plastic melts with pretty much any solvent. You can put the pieces back on the day after you paint but don't put the grommet around the antena on the drivers side back on for several days..maybe a week.

temp fix for faded garnish

While we're on the topic of rear quarter garnish, I'd like to point out that for a temporary fix Armorall does wonders for making the plastic shiny and a little more colorful. Mine are faded pretty bad but a little bit of Armorall makes them look good for two or three days, longer if it doesn't rain.

Just what I needed also, but for breaking all the connecting bits. Any progress on this, as to the proper way to remove and reset the assembly?

Re: Don't know what to call it, but want to remove it

Pretty well any plastic polish will do the trick on this piece, my red has faded loads of times over the past 23 years I have had the car (same as the door mirrors).

I use Cherry Glaze (it is meant for paint) - it does a great job for any plastic and leave a nice smell.....

Yeah, I see all that, but it ain't that easy. Is it accessible through the back seat from the inside?

From what I recall it is not accessed at all from the interior of the car.
