bearing repack
ADVERTISEMENT
Hi all; Ive just recieved my svx replacement bearings, DO I HAVE TO TEAR THEM APART IN ORDER TO CLEAN THE GREASE AN REPACK THEM WITH SYNT GREASE??? It seems the bearing will break,it looks sealed. How about just submerge them in Gasoline, and use a pressure grease gun. Please help |

new bearings
The bearings come with a plastic friction grip sleeve which holds them together. When that's removed, you can take them apart.
The roller bearings are housed in what appears to be a "plastic housing" so they stay in order/line. I've been told to clean with parts cleaner, not to air spray high pressure, dry, re-grease with synthetic (I used Redline). Sure would be nice if Subaru would pop for the approx. $2 to put the right grease on in the first place! I hope someone comes up with a replacement bearing that has nothing to do with Subaru engineering, production or shipping! HAVE FUN!

Thanks for the tip.
I had my new beariengs installed to exact specifications Ive found in the forum, I think they still howl a little, Tires are new though. Anyway , I love the looks and performance of my 1992 pearly LSL. just 16,000 miles in the clock, smells like new. this is one of the only four Svx you can find in Peru. cost me US$3,000.00; In a market where you have to pay US$ 26,000 for a brand new basic non turbo impreza, this is a steal.!!! |
