Question How to check ball joints

A shop just told me that i had play in my right front ball joint. How can I check it myself? From my understanding, it's easy to check...I just don't know how to.

I don't care if Subaru says it's STI...it will always be STi to me

You need to jack the car a few inches off the ground, the jack must be under the A-arm or you will just move the suspension. Then take a pry bar,put it between the tire and the ground and pry upward. To measure it correctly you should use a gauge but if it real bad you should be able to feel it.

My ball joint got so bad that it almost fell out. I didn't even notice until my dad pointed it out to me. It failed very quick as I had an alignment done not long before that and they didn't say anything then.

I disagree with the check method above. It doesn't work on the SVX. Jack the front body of the svx up so both the front wheels are off the ground, this takes the sway bar out of the problem. Then use a pry bar between the lower A arm and steering knuckle. If it is bad you will be able to separate the lower arm and knuckle. If a JAck is used under the lower ArM you Will NOT see JACk. The lower arm has big rubber bushings that continually push the lower A arm up into the steeering knuckle. This is obvious when you take the lower ball joint apart and have to push like the the the Mi$$Le Eas%#$& trying to cum, to get these two parts apart.
