Detailing?

How exactly is a car 'detailed', internally and externally? It has to be more than just soapy water, right?

basically, you want to attend to every "detail" to make the car look like it rolled off the showroom floor, or better. meticulously clean everything. clean all dirt/dust, condition the leather/vinyl, vacuum, wash, glaze, wax, etc. you'll need lots of various car care products (of which there are many opinions ) and tools (q-tips, brushes, rags...). check out www.carcareonline.com for some really good cleaning tips and product recommendations.

Have fun with it...

Go to your local Auto Supply store, and go wild in the car care isle. Buy everything you think you could use. It is fun, and the end result will really be worth the money! Don't be afraid to try new products, that's how you find your favorites.

Be "anal" when detailing the car. Dont be afraid to spend 20 minutes cleaning the grime out of an air vent. It is a process.

it took me about 10-12 hours to do just the exterior - wash, glaze, wax, windows, rubber, plastic, etc. interior was about 4-6 hours....and it was in great shape to begin with! don't forget the engine compartment. if you've ever seen the Concours D'Elegance wackos, they have every bolt on the freakin' car polished!
i'll have to take a picture of my car care product shelves - its disgusting how much i have!

And the really anal (svx-cess-ive) members invest in the Dremel.

But that's another whole story about what can be done under the hood. I did it on my pearlie and don't know if I've got the ambition to tackle it all over again on my new polo green.

SVXCESS (John),

You are very artistic and a whiz with a computer; so here is my suggestion.

Find a Ralph Lauren Polo insignia in green. Put it in the computer.
Change its color to polo green.
Use the computer to make a transparancy of the insignia and put the words Polo Green under the logo. Then put the transparancy on the inside of one of the fixed rear windows.

Now that's ANAL.
