Re: leaking bead

Take a rubber mallet and beat the bead all the way around the tire. I used to manage a tire shop and this was the most effective way to reseal leaky beads. If you have an air compressor, it helps to lower the pressure to a few PSI before you do it, then refill, as it allows the rubber to flex more with lower pressure and seal up.

Or do you mean its totally seperated off the rim and you cant get it to set again?

I guess you've never seen what a few Canadian winters will do to a set of alloy rims. I scrap them regularly because the bead has become so corroded it will no longer hold air, regardless of what's done to it. The pits are 1/4" wide and deep.

Gamesy, if the tire has been un-seated and is sitting on the inside of the wheel you should be able to get it back on by putting air into it, however you need to be very careful. If the tire has been chewed up at all it's probably scrap. If you see any bulges in the sidewall while adding air, stop immediately and take all the air out, the belts inside the wall have been broken and the tire is toast.

True, I would assume if the sidewall were bulging he would have said that though. Believe me, its not much different in North Lake Tahoe where I worked. One thing we did to our rims is apply a thin film of vaseline to the bead surface before mounting the tire, which provided a better seal and almost completely prevented corrosion.
Another thing that you can do is fill the tires with nitrogen, its inert and wont corrode the inside of the rim as regular compressed air does, since usually compressed atmospheric air also contains lots of moisture.

Re: leaking bead

no its still seated on the rim properly, its weird, sometimes i'll lose pressure other times its fine, i'll do the rubber mallet thing today. And i have seen many canadian winters but i guess Ontario is different from Saskatchewan lol even though Sask has worse roads than ontario :P
