Your auto tranny: 4.11 or 4.44?

I want to know what auto tranny everyone has in their car. I want to get a 4.11 because it's my every day car. So which Subarus and what years have the 4.11 gear ratio? And with FWD, do I have to buy anything else besides the transmission itself for a swap?

With FWD, you're looking at a WHOLE lot more than simply a transmission.

Driveshaft
Rear Diff (w/carrier)
Rear axles
Trans. Control Unit
Hubs
Bearings
Seals

These are the major parts you'll need to acquire.

+1 if you're going AWD, you'll need these. Staying FWD all you need is the transmission. Oh yeah, and a second pair of hands helps, those buggers are HEAVY!

If you want to go AWD, add a AWD rear subframe to that list.

If you're just looking to do a FWD swap, you're most likely stuck with 3.7 unless you swap the front diff gears.

Sooo.. Is there any tranny I can use that I can just bolt on without any extra parts? The SVX has a 3.90 gear ratio, right? Are there any other cars with the same ratio that I can use the tranny out of? Oh, and yeah, I'm staying FWD. I don't have the extra money to do an AWD conversion.

If you're doing the work yourself, it shouldn't be that much different, as you will be looking for a parts car anyway.

You can get a FWD trans out of any FWD Legacy or Impreza from 90-96.

You will need to use an SVX torque converter, and the speed sensor will need to be swapped, but other than that, it's a direct swap.

I'm pretty sure the torque converter is fine.. And I'll probably need a speed sensor because my speedo didn't work. Where can I find a speed sensor and is there a writeup anywhere telling me how to do the swap?

God I got screwed over bad... This particular SVX is a pile of 5h1t. I got screwed out of this deal up and down because now I have nothing to drive. I don't have the money to throw into this goddamn car.. I don't see how anyone else does either. Anybody want to buy or trade for a 94 SVX?

I didn't change topic, I just accepted that there's no way I can afford repairs. I wish it would catch on fire.
