Help!!!!!!
Does anyone know how many pounds of refrigerant that the air conditioning system in the svx requires? the data plate is missing from my engine compartment, and I need to fill it up after an accident with the transmission rebuild let it all out.
Please reply if you know! Thanks, Trent |

Need to know what year, as at the least, they switched from R12 to R134 in 1993. I suspect the specs are different.

You're in luck - my 1992 was also converted over to R-134. My sticker says 1lb 12oz of refrigerant and 2oz of lubricant.
I trust that yours should be similar. |

Addition Question!
Does anyone know how to find out if their car was converted to R134? I'm not sure I know where to look.

I am not 100% sure, but I think the valves are different (so you can't hook up the wrong equpment).
If it was done reputably, there should be a sticker somewhere. Also, the dryer/receiver should have been replaced. Don't take any of this as truth as I may not know what I am talking about. |

A new drier is not a requirement, however new 'o'-rings are a good idea as R-134 is molecularly smaller than R-12 and leaks more easily (both through gasketing and diffusion.) Actually a R-12 system should be flushed, removing all traces of the oil that was installed with the R-12 charge and then a new charge of the proper oil installed (such as PAG, which goes both ways.) I hear a lot of techs that just dump the 134 in and say they never have a problem, and I also read the updates that state the oil in a R-12 system won't properly lubricate the system when 'contaminated' with R-134. Anyway, it's difficult to explain the difference between the valves if you don't know what the old R-12 valves looked like. I'll bet that a quick stop at a parts store or garage would a quick answer for you. Beav |

Ahh the old sticker under the hood trick....
Only one problem. Who ever repainted (poorly) this, used to be pearl now it's just white car, negelcted to put any of the stickers back on. I 've had to order new stickers for the vacuume and wiring for the state people. I guess it's off to the dealer in Santa Cruz to see if they can tell. I like riding over the mountain anyway!
