i took mine up to 133mph the last time i drove over to san francisco on the 505....the handling was great, but passing cars at double their speed and not knowing if a cop was waiting up ahead made me nervous.

ALCYONE SVX ACCESSORY UPDATE

I just received an email listing from Japan Direct Import Service. The following is a list of the Alcyone SVX accessories that are still available. The numbers refer to the items which can be seen in Alcyone Accessories album in my briefcase http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/svxcess?d...=fld19&.src=ph

2 Accent sticker set 6,000JPY ($48.57)
3 REAR SPOILER!!! 65,000JPY ($526.00)
16 Cabin air cleaner 38,900JPY ($315.00)
17 Solar Air Filter 5,500JPY ($44.53
18 Trunk mat 11,000JPY ($89.00)

Alcyone Hood Emblem is also available for 3660JPY ($29.64)

The prices above do not include shipping or commission, which on an order of between 1 and 50,000JPY is 12.5% (minimum 3,000JPY) which is about $24.30

I think the original Japanese spoiler is great! Larger and a little more agressive than the US version. If anyone wants to know what some of the items are, I'll post the list (12 and 13 are called "rear magic curtains" The prices quoted here are less than the ones originally posted in the brochure. I think they are trying to close them out

Aredub, definitely agree about the Nazca. Beautiful machine. I like anything that comes out of ItalDesign. Always have.

I'm interested in the hood emblem. If and when we get up some kind of bulk order be sure and post it! I definitely want a hood emblem.

Bulk order commission

This is the commission rate for Japan Direct Import service:

1 - 50,000 Yen 12.5% (minimum 3,000 JPY)
50,001 - 100,000 Yen 11%
100,001 - 200,000 Yen 10%
200,001 - 400,000 Yen 9%
400,001 - 600,000 Yen 8%
600,001 - 800,000 Yen 7%
800,000 - 1,000,000 Yen 6%
More than 1,000,001 Yen 5%

To coordinate a large order from Japan, with shipping to one address and then re-shipping may prove problematic. I wonder if all orders could be individually sent under the SVX CLUB name and a lower commission rate for the total be established.

<<I like anything that comes out of ItalDesign.>>

Well, I can't say "anything." Some of the Fiat and Seat designs are a little drab, along with some of the Lancia stuff -- but, overall Giugiaro's "hits" in my book, far outnumber his "misses." In 1988, he even developed a Prototype called the "Aztec." Now, if Pontiac had adopted THAT Aztec instead of the one they released, I'd be drooling instead of puking.

If there is a bulk order, I want to get one of those BOXER engine covers.

BTW, for some reason I have not been able to get any e-mail reply fron japaneseparts.com. I sent an e-mail request to Japanese Direct Import Service today, too early to tell on that one.

Italdesign 2000 Calendar

JOE! Alert! Alert! If you haven't been to the Italdesign sight lately, you MUST go. Check the "2000" calendar. I had somehow missed this the last couple of times I was there.

Went to ItalDesign website. Are you talking about the Helmut Newton stuff? If so, yep, very cool. Saw it a while ago. I check out the site every month or so. Yeah, the Aztec from ItalDesign was cool, way cool. Alas only a prototype. Oh and one other thing. I like the Pontiac Aztek GT/1SC with the camping package. But then I've always been a stickler for weird cars. I liked the Subaru XT, and the SVX. Face it. SVX, you either like it or not. Aztek, you either like it or not.

Well, I like the SVX (obviously), the Aztek I don't. Of course, at one time, I thought the AMC Marlin was a hot car. Then, I almost bought a 1972 AMC Hornet that came with, guess what? A "camping package." They actually made a little "camper tent thingy" that fit over the hatchback. I think I was falling more than the camper thingy than the Hornet (Burnt Orange with B/W Houndstooth interior). I think about it now, and almost puke.

Speaking of AMC, the 4WD Eagle wagon seems to have attained cult-car status here in my neck of the woods. I see them all the time, and they appear to be in decent shape.
The Matador (muscle-car version) and the AMX were always some of my favorites.

Cool Standard wheels

While we are talking design features { well, way back a bit we were} one neat touch with the SVX that I like are the directional wheels. What I mean by that is the wheels are "handed", and marked so you put the right wheel on the right side only.

Wheels which have radial spokes direct from the hub to the rim will look the same on either side of the car. If the spokes are cranked, they will seem to lean forward on one side of the car and back on the other side if they are all made the same.

I once had a very small, very fast car, a Renault 5 Turbo, and the wheels were like this, leaning forward one side, backward the other. On the SVX, the wheels appear to be on backways to me, the spokes lean forward on the top of the wheel, I would prefer them leaning back, but I am hard to please.

No doubt they are done this way to increase turbulent airflow to the brakes, they need all the help they can get. Can't help the feeling they would look better with the upper spokes leaning back, but it is nice to see the attention to detail the engineers have applied here.

Joe
