What about my yellowsub?
Hi!
I feel for your redsub wishes but I did not decide yet what to do about the yellow one and I need some advise from experienced and bright people as I am sure you all are. I will have to take a decision up to next monday or tuesday and I am really still with doubts. Two people I know, from Portugal, went there (Germany) to check the beauty (not on purpose, of course) and besides other data, namely some envious comments , what they said was that mechanically it seemed ok. They mean no leakeages, promptly started even after being stopped for a few days under average temperatures of minus 10 degrees Celsius. Under the hood and in the trunk nothing is looking bad. Inside it is not immaculately clean but it seems well taken care and they said the back seats seemed like were never used (I don't intend to seat there anyway...). Joe, you were right. It seems the paint difference from the back impact repair is noticeable up to the doors area because they probably decided to paint the whole back section to make it even. They claim the car stereo has CD but the pics I got do not show it near the radio. Could it be in the trunk? Can anybody check the pics and let me know your opinion about the unit installed (it is has a Subaru and Panasonic label on it)? What does the ECON letters stand for in the gearbox lever? The rims are Subaru optional equipment in Germany and they are 17" as it can be seen, equiped with Pirelli P7000 still in good condition. The antenna seems to be now in its normal position and the windows functioned well. They chose not to go for a test ride because there was too much ice on the road and it was too risky. Under the car they noticed rust on the exhaust only but the sound, even under (static) acceleration indicated no perforation (yet...). Could this be a problem? It seems these exhausts are expensive. Can anybody tell me your opinion? Can you confirm if this is risky and/or costy? They heard a sound coming from the motor, immediately after the startup, they described as "a knocking noise, probably from a valve", but they said that after 10 minutes running the knock noise was not there anymore. For everybody to analyze the pics in good conditions I will keep their original sizes and for that reason I will have to send two further messages. Joe, Randy, Beav, Andy, Marty, Mitch, Mike and all the rest - please send me your opinion . I want to step in in style (although not necessarily in yellow style ) but I realy cannot aford to put a foot wrong otherwise the SVX will have a hard time stopped for lack of funds . Among the units available in Europe (around twelve) this seemed to have the best balance between age (1996), price (8000 Euro) and mileage (110000km). Other good points are one owner only, all the scheduled maintenance in a Sub dealer (they faxed me the proofs) and the (sad) reason to sell: the owner died from health problems (no, not a crash). Finally, Portuguese Sub representative told me parts should not be a problem but they will surely be expensive and this will be the first SVX owned by a Portuguese, as far as they know. Tone |

Looks a bit dodgy to me.
The photo of the interior seems genuine for the age and mileage, but take a close look a the paint inside the wheel arch and tha condition of the wheel and tyre. It would appear that the wheels are brand new and the paintwork has just been done. I would suspect that it has been in a big shunt very recently. Have it checked out professionally before proceeding.

Should be in the trunk What does the ECON letters stand for in the gearbox lever? Don't know. This is called Manu in mine, the car starts in second when it is pressed for slippery conditions The rims are Subaru optional equipment in Germany and they are 17" as it can be seen, equiped with Pirelli P7000 still in good condition. The antenna seems to be now in its normal position and the windows functioned well. Good They chose not to go for a test ride because there was too much ice on the road and it was too risky. Smart Under the car they noticed rust on the exhaust only but the sound, even under (static) acceleration indicated no perforation (yet...). Could this be a problem? It seems these exhausts are expensive. Can anybody tell me your opinion? Can you confirm if this is risky and/or costy? Should be OK. If the original exhaust silencer is still on, it might indicate the rear end shunt was not too hard, a bonus They heard a sound coming from the motor, immediately after the startup, they described as "a knocking noise, probably from a valve", but they said that after 10 minutes running the knock noise was not there anymore. Possibly [probably?] a sticking hydraulic adjuster on one of the valves [Beav?] Needs a Subie techie to check it out if so. Engines do not give much trouble. For everybody to analyze the pics in good conditions I will keep their original sizes and for that reason I will have to send two further messages. Joe, Randy, Beav, Andy, Marty, Mitch, Mike and all the rest - please send me your opinion . Finally, Portuguese Sub representative told me parts should not be a problem but they will surely be expensive and this will be the first SVX owned by a Portuguese, as far as they know. Do as Andy suggests. Get the car checked out by an independent expert. Check for chassis alignment and subframe or suspension damage/repair. Chances are the shunt was panel damage as they told you, but pay the few Euro to be sure. Litigation across states will be difficult afterwards, you don't want to go there. Best of luck, Joe

I'll be in England (Cornwall) at the end of this month and it's one of my dreams to own an SVX on each side of the pond. If it's convenient, I'd like to take a look at it But Irene is not looking favourably on freeing up any cash right now, so it would be a tough sell You never know though, if we just "happened" on a nice one I might just get her to melt.

She is up in Scotland, so not too convenient for Cornwall.
If you seriously want to check some out while on your trip, let me know and I will try to track some down in that area.
