horsepower ratings

I've been told that the earlier motors had more ponies than the later versions by as much as 230 vs 270. Is this true and if so, what years have the higher hp? All of the specs I've seen list all of the engines with 230 regardless of the year. Thanks again.

on the EG33, all are rated at 230. However, EJ30 (the new H-6 3.0L), that can do around 300ish but SOA toned it down to 230.

FYI: I believe the new three liter is rated at 212.

Yes, the new 3.0 is rated at 212 hp. And every 3.3 is rated at 230 hp, regardless of years.

212 is the information SOA gives out to people. The engine itself can do a hell of a lot better than what "rated" value says. that is from the mouth of an SOA rep.

Yeah, the master tech we spoke with at the last New England meet said that the WRX motor (what's the code?) falls VERY short of its potential, and that even the new STi motor will be severly "undertuned" for the US markets..

Makes me wonder what the 'g33 is capable of....

Its a EZ30, not EJ30. And Subaru had no choice to "tone" it down, its called emmisions standards. Thats why the WRX engine is a LEV.

In Japan the EZ30 also comes in an AVCS Form (Variable Valve Timing) and bumps the motor from 212->217 Hp. If you run regular fuel in the EZ30 you drop down 4hp to 208 as well.

They seem to have castrated the US WRX, from the version that we got here in OZ, back in 94,95.

Harvey.

Harvey, not only did they reduce power (227hp) on the USDM WRX, they also pulled the four piston front calipers! It's OK though, as most of the drivers of the manual transmission cars apparently feel that standing redline clutch drops and speed shifting are OK for the car. Transmissions are grenading and people are wondering why
