Reading 14, April 2013 date poll

Looking at the weekends in next April. Easter comes early next year on 3/31. Taxes are due on Monday the 15th.

For the meet it's been narrowed down to;
April 5,6,7
April 12,13,14 (just before taxes)
April 19,20,21

I went through Morgantown's weather history back to 2004 and historically the third weekend looks like the best bet with an average 71*/Mostly Sunny. The first weekend comes in 2nd with an average 58*/Cloudy. The middle weekend has the historically worst weather with rain on 5 of the 9 years and an average temperature of 54.

This poll will run until August 5, 2012.

You can vote for more than one weekend.

Re: Reading 14, April 2013 date poll

Dave,

I'm all for the last option, however if it is anything like this year weather-wise, maybe a later date could be proposed? It was still mighty cold this year standing out in that parking lot... Mid May would be better as far as weather goes honestly, but its going to be up to the rest of the group.

Is there any reason we are not considering the last weekend in April, which is April 26-28 ?

Tony, just show up. Owners of 1996 Polos have been known to suffer from fits of abnormal behavior from time to time.

As far as I know, no one has ever officially been invited (or banned) from Reading. You were never un-invited.

One exception: We officially "invited" SOA and Phoenix Performance to the Reading 10th anniversary. They accepted our invitation and brought the Pace Car and the spec.B SRRT Legacy to the party

Re: Reading 14, April 2013 date poll

It doesn't look like it's necessary to extend the poll any longer.

After speaking with a few people that offered to help out with the meet. It was concluded that these were the three available weekends. And there seems to be a strong lead for the 3rd weekend.

The poll is still available if anyone else wants to get a vote in.

I'll speak with the contact at the Holiday Inn this coming week and then get a main informational post started.

Re: Reading 14, April 2013 date poll

The funny thing about it is, in the years I attended (8, 9, 10, 11), only the last one was rough on the thermometer IMHO. April used to be fantastic when dry. Where is your global warming now?

I'm all for the 3rd weekend in April. Again, however, my concern is that it will be quite cold (coming from personal experience, in that I live 25 minutes from Morgantown). And with this last winter being as dry and warm as it was, my fear is that we will get hit pretty heavy this year. Not to mention that even this past one being on the final weekend of April, it was still mighty cold out in that parking lot when the wind whipped up (which was more often than not), not having any cover to shield from the wind.

Hence the reason why I asked before about maybe moving it into mid-late May when the weather is much better. There is plenty of time for everyone to organize their schedules and make necessary arrangements between now and May so that they can attend.

And yet again, I am still willing to volunteer my time and help organize this meet to make it happen. Let me know what I can do to help is all I ask.

Just my 2 cents....

Re: Reading 14, April 2013 date poll

Since my first Reading in 2004. We have had as many beautiful weather meets in April as we have had bad weather meets. And some of the more memorable and fun days were in cold sideways rain.

While weather is a consideration. We can't base everything on it.

Gotcha. Another thing to consider too is that it would give more time to organize the meet. I remember reading something from John about the fact that it took him an entire year to organize this year's meet, and given that there is only 8 months and we are just getting started organizing 2013... So not only better weather, but more time to plan for everything and get things in order

Re: Reading 14, April 2013 date poll

For those that weren't there.... Reading 10 it was mid 80's, sunny and hot all weekend long... And the dates correspond almost identical to the dates for the 3rd weekend. It's a crapshoot, just as much as May can be. Hell, this past spring, it was mid 80's 2 weeks before reading, then we had a winter storm just a few days before Reading in Erie.

I was referring to Reading 10. It took from March 2001- April 2009 of negotiation and updates to get the PPG Pace Car to Reading, as well as the SRRT 2.5 Legacy spec.B
