Why so many backwards wheels?

Why does there seem to be such fascination with backwards wheels? A lot of the pics of SVXi I see have the wheels backwards or even worse, mismatched (some right, some backwards). Is this an attempt at tire rotation or just a general lack of attention? Does this annoy anyone else as much as it does me?

Uh, what was the question again?

1) Because some folks are more detail focused. Some would say "anal".
2) Most likely the latter. Some just like them swept back.
3) Annoy might be a bit overboard. Actual mismatches have to make one wonder, but some owners are entirely unaware of the difference R to L, maybe purchasing an incorrect replacement wheel without knowing, or having to settle for what is available to get back on the road. And there are always going to be those that do it just to bug you.

Here is another one to bug you!

Actually, it only really bugs me when it is on my car. Don't worry, I had them correct their mistake the next day:

Re: Why so many backwards wheels?

In general I'd say it's a mistake on the part of the shops working on the cars, compounded with owners either not knowing, or not being bothered enough to get it fixed. Directional wheels are not exactly common, there are only a handful of cars with them. SVX, Prelude, Previa... I think those are the only ones that I've run into personally.

Re: Why so many backwards wheels?

Having directional wheels really makes you notice the ones that aren't.
I have a set of Talon wheels for snows. They have a similar swept design but they all sweep the same way. On one side they face forward and the other they face back. I find that annoying.

There was a previous thread on this subject, and it's surprising just how many vehicles were in fact equipped with directional wheels! We're far from alone.

Re: Why so many backwards wheels?

when i got mine the rims were on backwards and they were put on backwards again by the tire shop. Now they are facing the right way. I think the car looks much better with the rims on correctly.

It's sad how little attention some pay to seemingly obvious details like that, professionals at a tire shop nonetheless.

You live in Clarksburg.....
When was the last time you saw an SVX that you did not own IN PERSON?????

I just drove to NY and back without seeing one.
The backwards wheel thing gets to me too, but I only see it in pictures.BTW,
Elazar, READING is coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!: cool:

Re: Why so many backwards wheels?

Yes, Tom, it's just pictures I see. There was another Liquid Silver in town here last year but someone decided to park their engine in his back seat before I could get it. His wheels were correct.

I just got back from NY as well, picking up our newest addition (western NY) but I didn't see any other SVXi at all. What a surprise.

Can we plan to meet and drive up with you guys this year? We'll have the right car this time, Hopefully both of them.
