Re: rear diff flange removal

Are you saying that the nut will not come off?

Re: rear diff flange removal

I made a tool out of a flat piece of steel to hold the rear diff flange.
It is about 1/4" thick, and 1, 1/2" wide, and about 4' long.
It has one 1/4" hole drilled into it , offset, and a slight curved ground out area so that it clears a socket on the end of the pinion shaft.
With the tool bolted onto the flange, I can use a breaker bar and socket to loosen the flange bolt.
Leverage is your friend.

Re: rear diff flange removal

like svxfiles said, you probably need to attach something to the snout flange to prevent it from spinning while you use a breaker bar or impact to remove the nut.

Re: rear diff flange removal

You might want to borrow a 600ft/lb impact wrench.
For anything that my 250ft/lb guns won't break loose, I have to bust them loose by hand.

What diff do you need?
As far as swapping them it's like ten bolts, and two nuts.

Re: rear diff flange removal

Stick a heavy screwdriver through the flange hole and lock it against the diff body?

i have the stock svx diff from the parts car, it was that flange i had redrilled for the new driveshaft, my plan was to just swap the flanges but since it seems like its been welded on i'll just have to take off the rear diff.

do i need to undo the camber bolts for the rear wheels to have enough space to pop out the axels from the diff?

Re: rear diff flange removal

"Pop" the axles before undoing all the bolts. As you lower the diff you can pull the axles out. It is easier without the exhaust pipe in the way.
