Re: 1992 SVX AWD - parting out

Boxer, I'm sorry I'm not following you. Are you suggesting to trade my svx with another that is damaged so I can part out the damaged?

If so, keep in mind that this car does not come with the engine and engine wiring harness, and the transmission is no good (might be a cheap fix, I don't know).

If anyone is interested in the entire car please let me know ASAP and I'll hold off a few more days on the parts.

Re: 1992 SVX AWD - parting out

If the engine were still in the car as of now... I would have suggested trading it for a car in worse condition than that pearlie... a car that is closer to the condition of being parted out, that you could pull the engine and guts out of, instead.

But if the guts are already gone... I guess what is done is done. I hope the car can go to someone with a damaged SVX, for a guts transplant to at least keep one SVX out of the both, on the road. The body of that pearl white SVX looks quite good, while there are some SVXs still rolling that don't look as good as that. Mine included.

If the body is straight, and rust-free... it would make a good restoration project donor chassis. That gets harder, the less of the car is present. Engine and cooling system and such can be had from accident-damaged cars, or rusted out cars. I wish I could pick it up whole from you, and start a restoration, but I am way short on cash, and texas is a long way.

Re: 1992 SVX AWD - parting out

Unfortunately for the cars sake I've already pulled the motor and started rebuilding it.

I'm willing to make a good deal for anyone who wants the car. It will be some work though getting it back in one piece. The dash is already taken apart so that saves you half the work of installing a new engine harness.

Re: 1992 SVX AWD - parting out

What does sti mean by the way?

Thanks for posting that link! I'll list the car under the "car for sale" forum, maybe it will get some better takes there. I'll hold off on any parts for a bit longer, I'm in no rush to get rid of the car anyways.

--edit--
Can I list an ad under the cars for sale forum? The description says "whole cars", and being that this isn't technically a whole car I'm not sure if I'm allowed.

The impreza wrx sti is an absurdly fast awd car. http://www.subaru.com/vehicles/impre...sti/index.html

sti stands for subaru technica international or something along those lines. The svx was out long before there was an sti trim of the impreza, and so someone thought it would be cool to put an sti badge on yours. Not a bad idea since that would get other subaru guys to realize that it's a subaru.

Go ahead and post it, as long as it has a clean title and can be registered once fixed, it at least has the potential to be a "whole car".

Re: 1992 SVX AWD - parting out

I bought it on November 13th.
The car has around 101K miles, I'll get an actual reading today or tomorrow when I get the chance.

Dude, don't bother. There is no 'bright side' to your story, in fact; it's TRAGIC in every respect, for the total lack of any respect.

Everyone here likes the SVX engine. If any of us owned a Vanagon, the SVX engine would be the first choice. But the fact is, we don't cannibalize the nice SVXes remaining in our world, just for the engine. We are happy when 'you guys' use the engine out of a wrecked SVX. We are not happy when you search the country, and purchase a otherwise excellent SVX only to ship 2000 miles and tear apart.

I saw that car advertised here in LA, but I was told some guy from Texas had dibs on it. I wanted to put a new diff in it and give it to my son to drive to school. That's primarily what SVXes are for, for driving, for admiring. We love our SVXes. That car deserved better than a hack job.

Anybody here would have found you an engine and harness, including myself, for much less than you paid. Why didn't you post up and ask? To butcher one of the nice remaining '92 SVXes, for what?, for a Vanagon, to use as your 'trail toy', then proudly offer us the carcass? That's worse than insulting. It would be no different if you abused my grandma, then asked me to pay to watch.

Good luck with your project,

Re: 1992 SVX AWD - parting out

Wow, that's really harsh man.

I'm truly sorry that you could not have had this car for your son, I hope you find him a better one. You've succeeded in making me feel bad, so congratulations, that's probably what you wanted anyways.

I'm sorry you feel the way you do, but this is not a "tragic story". What I'm doing is greatly helping to further myself in life and I'm having a damn good time doing it. I did not intend whatsoever to insult or disrespect anyone in this community. And I am surely not "proudly offering my carcass" to you guys.

This is life. You don't always get what you want, and things will happen that you may not like. I understand why you are upset but please do not disrespect me and my project, and please stop with the harsh comments. I had a feeling I wouldn't be welcome in this community, but I was not expecting this.

At least I'm trying to help a few people out with some cheap used parts... ya know I could have just called the junk yard to come pick it up.

Re: 1992 SVX AWD - parting out

You know, it's not like he's cutting the car in half. You could still easily find a rusty hulk with a good engine, or a wrecked one with a good engine to stuff in there. I hate seeing an otherwise perfectly good SVX parted out for a bad transmission as much as the next guy, but even though a car with no harness as well as no engine is a bit harder to get back on the road, it could be done. Where's the girl that had hers get totaled? I don't think it's a lost cause, hell I'd buy that car and find an engine for it if I lived closer to Texas, but it'd cost me too much to have it shipped here. (Plus my wife would kick my ass!)]

Nate you should buy it and stuff the engine out of that rusty one you got in it...

Re: 1992 SVX AWD - parting out

I got more offers on parts but I'll hold off and see if anyone wants the car.

I paid $550 shipping from CA to TX. Like I said, I'm willing to work with anyone on a fair price, shipping shouldn't be too much if you live within a few states away or on a major transport route. The car can be had for cheap, just a matter of paying shipping or coming to pick it up.

Re: 1992 SVX AWD - parting out

You seem like a good guy Justin. I really can't blame you too much for pursuing your goals. It is sad to see a car with a nice straight rust free body parted though. I think one of the big problems for this car was the 2 previous owners who obviously didn't give a **** about the cars and didn't even care to see them on the road again. It is even sader to see from those engine compatment pictures that at some point this SVX had a owner that really did care about the car. But what's done is done, I wish you good luck with your project Justin.

Re: 1992 SVX AWD - parting out

damnit, I don't have any money... I shouldn't allow myself to be tempted like this.

Dare I ask who you used to ship the car, or what a ball-park figure for shipping it to the Omaha or Des Moines areas would be? I probably can't afford it. It is costing me enough to keep the 3 cars I already have maintained, and even they are already paid off.

I'd almost want to store and sit on the car until a wrecked one could donate it's engine and mechanicals back to this car.

If the interior, the mechanical parts, and such get removed and sold off, it is just all the more work to re-aquire them later, and put it all back to the way it was, or even the way it sits now. Let alone if rare parts like the glass, or ABS sensors, or various other parts get taken off... that can be an issue to track down again, and just more obstacles to this car getting the treatment it deserves.

If I had $$$$.... this car would get an ECUtune blueprinted, upgraded engine, a late model rear-biased STI/Spec.B 6-speed manual AWD drivetrain, and a full suspension re-fit. (and a set of those new retro-fit LED tail lights, HID glass headlights...)

Please someone buy this and put it back. There seem to be so few straight-bodied, rust free SVXs anymore. don't let this one die a slow dismantled death.

Andrew, I gladly would but I just bought that laguna so I don't have any money until I fix that up and sell it which won't be until after Reading. I also don't have a good wiring harness though, so I would need that as well. The sad part is that I know of a perfectly good parts car that was totalled with only 96k on a 94 LSi but the owner is not interested in selling it because they want to sell it with their currently running car...
